It seems cliché to say that the world is becoming ever smaller and increasingly interconnected. Yet trite as it may be to say, it remains true. It seems cliché to say that the world is becoming ever smaller and increasingly interconnected. Yet trite as it may be to say, it remains true. The ability to communicate and interact with cultures and in languages different to our own is becoming increasingly critical to our capacity to function - and, yes, even compete - in our ever more global society.

Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It has influenced countless other languages, including even English. It is one of six of the official United Nations languages and an official language in 25 countries. The Middle East - in which Arabic is the dominant language - is and arguably always has been an axis through which the spokes of the global economic system and global politics run, coincide, and oftentimes even clash. But not only is Arabic important and influential as a language, it is also a historical language, with a rich poetic foundation.

I've spent nine years as a passionate student of the Arabic language, and almost as many sharing my love of the language through teaching and tutoring. I received my undergraduate degrees in Arabic Language and Middle East Studies (focusing primarily on politics and history) and my Master's from the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, in Diplomacy Studies. I have a tutoring certification from the College Reading and Learning Association. Finally, I have experience teaching English to native Arabic speakers.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I will be interested in your reasons for seeking to learn Arabic and what experience you might have already had in the language - though no prior experience is necessary, any level is fine. I am happy to take groups - sometimes it is best because it offers interaction, cooperation, and friendly competition - we can discuss group rates if so desired. Finally, I am happy to approach teaching and learning in whatever way is best for you: I'm comfortable with an informal and ad hoc tutoring style or to go as structured as to build and e

My BS required countless hours of writing for various courses - both for general education and for degree specific courses. One semester I was enrolled in 16 credit hours of writing courses alone. I have a College Reading and Learning Association qualification, which primarily focuses on the basic, core skills of writing and reading comprehension. My Master's was thesis based - requiring at least a 100 page thesis, thoroughly researched and annotated. I've been writing for courses beginning from middle school through college, and I'm constantly reading academic articles to keep up to date with research in my field, as well as the conventions of writing in Politics and Social Sciences.

Government & Politics

I have a BS in Middle Eastern studies with a specialty in Politics, including International Security Studies and Comparative Politics. I have a Master's in Diplomacy Studies which required numerous hours of study in Government, Policy, and International Relations. My undergraduate degrees (I also have a BS in Arabic Language) required numerous hours of government, economics, and international relations study as part of our general education courses.
World History

World History

Both of my undergraduate degrees and my Master's required a considerable amount of history study, including both World History and Military History - which was not limited to Western Military History. I am a student of history (and languages) by nature - I often read history in my spare time, including biographies, military history, and history of specific places or events. My high school was very ambitious and offered numerous college level courses (as a result of which I was able to test out of all 1 and 2 level history requirements for my undergrad). The courses offered included a Literature/World History combined course and a European History course, both of which I refer to often, even 12 years later.

I have earned a BS in Arabic Language and in Middle East Studies, as well as an MA in Diplomacy Studies from the University of Jordan, in Amman, Jordan. I lived and worked for two years in the Middle East, including in Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, the Emirates, Qatar, and the Palestinian Territories. I currently hold a Defense Language Proficiency Test rating of 3 in reading and 3 in listening, both which I'm constantly seeking to improve. I speak primarily the Levantine dialect in conversation. I have multiple years' experience tutoring and teaching Arabic to English speakers and English to native Arabic speakers.
