The English portion of the ACT tests both English mechanics and usage: punctuation, grammar, proper sentence structure; as well as rhetorical skills: identifying the author's purpose or tone, what constitutes good organization, along with polished style or consistency in the passage. These are skills that take real practice to identify and master, and require a truly skilled teacher/tutor to help students reach that aim. All tests can be conquered! More than the content of the given test, students are dealing with the style and specific skills to be tested - these things can indeed be taught, learned and mastered!
