I attended the University of Minnesota Duluth immediately after graduating from a specialized arts high school. I majored in Music and minored in Dance. I enjoyed my classes and being on a college campus. Performing was my passion and after graduating with University Honor and cum laude, I spent 6+ years in the work force pursuing acting, dance, and music.
I ultimately decided that some things are best kept as hobbies. I attended the College of St. Scholastica and got my graduate teaching licensure for communication arts and literature. I am licensed to teach in Minnesota and have a current California teaching credential. I continued on and earned my Master of Science degree in teaching.
I started substitute teaching while in my graduate program. I worked with ages from Pre-K to 12th grade and loved it all! I wasn’t afraid to try working with new ages. Working one-on-one with the elementary ages was always fun for me. I was also teaching dance; this has been a job of mine since I was 16 years old. I maintain a certification in a ballet curriculum as well.
I currently teach at a high school and work with 9th and 12th grades. There is a heavy focus on writing in one of my courses and I had to attend a special workshop training to teach a CSU planned reading and writing course, ERWC.
My teaching hinges on student work. I am not a hardcore, strict sort of teacher. I want a student to discover their own joy in their success. This can lend itself well to Montessori styles. I like child-led instruction best. I keep very calm and patient and ultimately want to boost confidence. I believe that learning and the desire to learn needs to come from the student. I’m here to help guide and encourage and build up that self-efficacy.
