During my career of 33 years I have taught a variety of courses which deal with the biological sciences. Among them have been AP Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Histology, and General Biology. Not only have I taught during the regular school year but I also was employed by Intermediate Unit #28 (ARIN out of Indiana, Pa.) to teach summer school for 17 years. In 1995 I was recognized as an All Star Educator by the University of Pittsburgh School of Education and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. I was a head baseball coach for 17 years. My teams advanced to the WPIAL semi finals in 1992 and 1993. The '92 team advanced as far as the state quarter finals. The '93 team advanced to the semi-finals before losing to the team of Union High School who became the state AA champions the following week. In addition to a long career in education I have also worked in the oil and gas industry for 10 years for companies such as Halliburton, Superior Well Services, and O-Tex Pumping.
As you can see, my life experience is varied. So it will be for your son(s) and/or daughter(s). In today's employment climate, people change jobs on the average of every three to five years. Today's students will need to possess skill sets that go well beyond the memorization of facts and figures. They will need to be able to think critically and engage in problem solving activities which may involve doing so live via networking with people on the other side of the world. So they will not only need to do these tasks but they will also be required to communicate effectively, possibly even doing so in a language other than that which is most familiar to them now. Education is still the key to success. Without it, doors of opportunity will forever remain closed to some. I love to teach; especially those who wish to truly learn. I hope that I can share my passion for the profession with you and your child such that they may realize their full potential both now and into the future.
