Hello prospective students!

I have two bachelor's degrees, one in Applied Mathematics and one in Earth Science. I obtained my PhD in Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences from Brown University in 2020 with a focus in oceanography. I have tutored, through Wyzant and the institutions I have attended, for nearly ten years.

In the summer of 2014, I was involved in a program designed to aid entering freshman transitioning to college level mathematics. I also taught a GRE prep course for the quantitative section of the test during that time. Since then, I have taught college level oceanography and programming to high school students at Brown University in person and virtually for three years, and also taught part of a python seminar to juniors at Princeton University for two years.

Currently I am the co-founder and course director of Climatematch Academy, which offers a yearly 2 week long virtual course in computational methods for climate science to hundreds of students around the world. The mission of this organization is to build a global community of scientists and stakeholders by breaking down barriers to knowledge, and presenting them in an inclusive and accommodating way. I use these same principles in my tutoring sessions, tailoring my approach to each student I encounter.

Overall I am very easy going and tutoring is something I don't just do 'on the side', but something that I really enjoy and am passionate about. I come to lessons prepared, and ask students to send whatever questions or materials they have in advance so we can make the most of our time together. I truly look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals - feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have passed the algebra test offered by WyzAnt and have been tutoring students requiring work in algebra for quite some time. When I tutored at my institution during my undergrad, many of the students I attended to were struggling with pre-college concepts. This enabled me to develop good techniques for tutoring the basics.

Multiple calculus courses taken and a decade of experience tutoring calculus at high school and university level.

I have passed WyzAnt's exams for calculus and algebra and I have an extensive background in both these areas. I was a peer leader for both calculus I and college algebra at my undergrad institution for about three years. During that time I also tutored at the library of my school for subjects from pre-college math through calculus III. Additionally, I know math can be hard to study for, and I have developed some excellent techniques over the years that have proven successful in my courses.

Supportive and positive with a deep understanding of calculus

Calculus 2 was easily the most difficult math class I have ever taken. After doing poorly on my midterm I enlisted Jenna to help me understand concepts and better utilize the calculator that was allowed in my exams. Not only did she solve particular problems like you would expect from a good tutor, but she wrote out sequences and series concepts in a way that was more concise and readable than my textbook. This clarity of writing comes from a deep understanding by this tutor. Jenna was always punctual and quick to respond to questions. I highly recommend her to any student who is struggling with a math class, because I would not have passed Calculus 2 without her support and positive attitude.

Fantastic Tutor: Really Understands how to Teach!

Jenna was awesome! She really understand how to teach you versus just throwing all of the information at you! She comes with plenty of study materials which is great because you’re both on the same page! I highly recommend her to anyone studying for the GREs.

Fantastic GRE Tutor!

Jenna was a fantastic tutor. I took the GRE once before and absolutely bombed the Quantitative section. The second time around, Jenna was truly the reason I was able to do so well. Not only did she walk me through every single step of problems I was struggling with, she also gave me test-taking tips and strategies that made all the difference on test day. If you have anxiety around test-taking, especially with math, Jenna is the perfect tutor for you!

Fantastic Tutor

Jenna helped me prep for a math test and she was extremely helpful. She provided plenty of practice materials for me and always went over things in detail. I now feel more confident in my mathematics ability and will continue to use her services in the future whenever the need arises. I've already recommended her to my friends so if you're thinking about getting a tutor I would suggest seriously considering Jenna.

Knowledgeable tutor ~ Calc 2

My son is taking Calc 2 online and Jenna is helping him to grasp the concepts and succeed in the class. She is very good at teaching and I am thankful he contacted her. The online tutoring will help whether he is home in MA or back to school in VA. Thanks Jenna!

Percipient and extremely friendly

Our first lesson went very well. The session didn't even feel like an entire hour. Jenna is charismatic and knows exactly what she is doing. We reviewed my previous Calculus test and started some homework. She was helpful and patient.

Excellent Tutor!

Jenna helped my son catch up in a calculus class when he joined more than a week after the semester had already started. After three hours with Jenna--they worked non-stop--he felt 100% comfortable with the material, and ready for his upcoming quiz and homework. Jenna was additionally extraordinarily flexible and compassionate, fitting my son in even though she really didn't have the time to work with him. I recommend Jenna without reservation.

Very competent

Jenna did a great job in showing me the way to set up problems and to get to start thinking more "mathematically" which is something I really need to improve in. She was nice and straightforward.
