With a Liberal Arts Degree with an emphasis on English, I am able to help most students with any of their grammar, reading, phonics, literature interpretation and many other English related topics. I have substitute for the Warren County School District for the past 3 years in all grades, so am comfortable with all ages. I also love math and am able to guide students in several different methods to solve math problems. I love geometry proofs and word problems and have many tips on how to conquer these 2 difficult areas of math. I am a professional artist and have completed several large pieces of work. I am proficient in drawing, watercolor, chalk pastel and acrylic. I am also a professional storyteller and can school a student in presentation, public speaking and memorizing. I have several speed reading techniques and study skills courses that I'm familiar with.

I have taught several home school classes in Science, Art, Drama and Math. I have produced several plays for youth, had my students win awards in local art shows, and have individually tutored math students in both Algebra I & II with a strong sense of understanding afterwards.

I use my knowledge of the subject and the student's style of learning to create a "path" of learning that the student can comprehend. There are many ways to solve a problem, I just figure out the easiest way for the student and we take it from there.

Drawing

I have been drawing since I was young and soon discovered I liked Black and White the most with a side of Watercolor. My style is very realistic, but don't teach that a student must follow that style. I teach the basics of perspective, shape, tone, shading, balance, tools and their use and let the student explore their own style and subject. I have taught for several years at the Troy Home School Network and before that at the Warrenton Home School Network. I have also taught drawing at Leftovers in St. Charles and an evening class in Warrenton for adults. My students' ages range from 5 years old to adults so am comfortable with all ages and abilities. I also have a Liberal Arts Degree.

I am currently a professional storyteller and will be a featured teller at the St. Louis Storytelling Festival this year 2016. I have told stories to all ages, including nursing homes. I have also done public presentations on my work in Africa at libraries and other venues. I also have performed 30-50 minute public presentations from the Bible. I have completed a speech program where we used a syllabus similar to the Toastmasters program. I have taught speech classes for home schoolers and have coached High School students in speech.

Elementary (K-6th)

I substitute all grades and believe the later grades hinge on the success of the younger grades. I have studied Singapore math and various other methods and feel I could help establish a base of learning in that subject. Also, as an English minor, I will be able to help in English and literature. Science and History are fun subjects and I currently teach a home-schooled science class for younger students, introducing subjects such as electricity, gravity, force and other physical science terms.

Flavia helped my son almost immediately. She suggested he create a cheat sheet to help him. He's already seen improvement.
