Hello students! I wish I could hear about your experiences before I start writing about myself. However, since I do not know you yet, let's begin with a short introduction. I am married, have two grown children and five grandchildren. I am retired from teaching at the college level. My specialties are English, History, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy/Ethics, Expository Speech, Debate, and Writing (with an emphasis on proofreading, grammar, creation of content/thematic unity, and proofreading). I currently tutor high school students in U.S. History, AP U.S., and World History, and college students for Wyzant nights/weekends in a plethora of subjects. I have taught all levels of education, including teaching History and English classes for the Indiana Department of Correction.

I have a B.A. from the University of Evansville, in a tri-fold degree, comprising and encompassing full degree work in History/Sociology/Philosophy. My Master's degree from Duke University is in Religion with a particular research and presentation emphasis in the Sociology of Religion. I am a published researcher doing my work in the 1970s on the research topic: "Dominant Ideologies in Rural North Carolina United Methodist Churches," published by Duke University Press. I have taught, and also tutored, at the college level: History, Sociology, Medical Ethics, Business Ethics, Introduction to Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy, and Art History from 3,000 B.C.E. to modern times.

You should know it is okay to know all the subject matter above. Still, my focus and passion are centered on helping students with content, retention, test preparation, the mechanics of researching, organizing, writing quality term papers, following the instructor's rubrics, etc...I also should mention that I enjoy helping students discover how they learn! WE ALL LEARN IN A UNIQUE WAY PECULIAR TO US! COOKIE CUTTER MOLDS DO NOT WORK FOR LONG TERM SUCCESS! Also, if students are struggling with a subject, and do not know what to do next, or even where to be

History

American History,

American and European history are my strong suits. In American history, I can go back to the early days of the country and settling in Jamestown, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitutional convention that led to the formation and adoption of the U.S. Constitution, etc. I tutor AP history every day. I have a BA in American history from the University of Evansville and an MA in Middle Eastern history that was part of. Religion degree that studied ancient cultures from Duke University.
Bible Studies,

Bible Studies

I have a tri-fold B.A. degree from the University of Evansville. One-third of my academic endeavors were in Religion and Philosophy. The Hebrew Testament (known by some as the Old Testament) is one of my areas of expertise. Also, I am an expert and scholar of the Christian Testament (known by some as the New Testament). In my undergraduate work, I was under the tutelage of one of my professors, Dr. Philip Ott, Ph.D., Univesity of Pennsylvania. He guided me in the initial learning of what is known as biblical exegesis (original languages, the authenticity of the text, socio-cultural context of the text for the interpretation at the time the text was written, and praxis, the potential modern-day application of the text. At Duke University, where I received my Master's degree in Religion, Biblical studies were a major part of the curriculum in the degree program. The degree program demanded proficiency with an academically sound knowledge foundation for a thorough and fair treatment of any text preserved in religious tradition and history. My major emphasis at Duke was in the Judeo-Christain tradition of Biblical studies (refer to paragraph one). Because the Master's degree program at Duke included "World Religions" curriculum, I am also academically knowledgeable about Islam, Mahayana Buddhism, Hinduism, and the Baha'i faith along with Rastafari ideology. Any text or ancillary document that supplements those religions are also areas of expertise for me.

A person who is truly dedicated to student success

Charles has been amazing. Im a college student and he has helped me in both my religion and history classes. He has so much knowledge of its crazy. The times he doesn't quite fully understand something not only does he go out of his way to learn so he can teach me but he himself is just as excited to learn something he's not familiar with. He's a great man that truly just wants the best for his students and see them grow. He's super so nice, patient, and flexible with me. He goes above and beyond and I wouldn't have gotten such a good grade on my religion paper if it wasn't for his help. I recommend him to anyone at any sort of level. He's definitely your guy.

Tutor responded:

Thanks so much, Jonathan! It was my pleasure to read and give suggestions for improvement to a high-quality paper (before the edit suggestions) that needed just some minor improvements to make it even better. I have graded at least three to four thousand term papers over a lifetime. Your obvious work was appreciated! Thanks again, Charles.

Knowledgeable, reliable and flexible

Charles, worked on my Political Science final paper, assisted with the flow and structure of the paper. He spent time thoroughly researching the topic of my paper and gave me some well needed suggestions about my paper. The feed back given both for content and citations were very helpful. Charles is an excellent tutor, he personalized the tutoring experience and definitely create a clear path for me to be better writer

Tutor responded:

Thanks so much, Marcia. It was my pleasure to help with both papers. I feel like our communication added to the success of the revision effort and the work turned in for both classes. You were excellent in providing needed clarification as I attempted to get a sense of what the rubrics and parameters were, and what they meant, in each paper's development Also, clarifying further expectations were essential. You provided the answers that helped me understand the direction the paper had to take to meet the expectations of the professors in each case. So, my thanks to you! It was a team effort! Thanks again for your kind words. Charles
