I have taught school for 19 years in Public High Schools, and taught seven years in Private Prisons in Oklahoma.
I believe that you have to start from where the student is, and bring him up to an acceptable level of knowledge and understanding. I believe in explaining the material and asking his/her point of view; but always bring them to the realization that they must learn the material. There is no substitute for study. I cannot learn for the student, I can only break it down to where he/she can comprehend it. Then it is up to the student and parents to see that he/she does their part of the work to learn the information. Feedback on tests will be required to ensure comprehension of the material being taught.
