Hello! My name is Jake and I have been a classroom teacher for the last 11 years teaching subjects at the Middle and High school levels. I currently specialize in World History, AP World History, and American History although I have experience in Civics, Economics, and American Government as well.

I have a degree in Social Science Education from Florida State University and am certified to teach all Social Science subjects as well as English for grades 6th-12th. My favorite part of teaching history is helping students understand how events from hundreds of years ago impact our daily lives and help students learn how to analyze past and current events long after they leave my classroom. The abilities students need to effectively analyze historical events and create and defend a position applies to every other subject and I love to help bridge the gap between content knowledge and honing the reading and writing skills needed to excel in any setting.

My focus in recent years has been assisting students with AP World History Modern since 2019 when I first started teaching the course. I have also run a local SAT workshop that spans several weeks where I focus on the reading and writing skills needed to improve their scores on that section of the test. I have been doing both of these over the last five years.

Whenever I start tutoring a new student, I always try to tailor each session based on their individual needs and learning styles. I attempt to gear my instruction toward every student's strengths and areas of weakness so I can focus on their specific needs as much as possible. I never have a singular approach as every person absorbs information differently and starts from a unique place.
