Greetings! I am so excited to be here and to work with you! My name is Mike and I love mathematics and physics. In 7th grade, the counselor put me in advanced mathematics. By the time I got to middle school, I knew I was going to be a math teacher. I graduated high school as the valedictorian (GPA 4.3) and then headed to college. I took Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Statistics I, Statistics II, Multivariable Calculus, Geometry, Differential Equations, and Abstract Algebra. I was a math tutor (for two years) and a lab assistant for physics (1 year). I helped other students my age to learn any form of mathematics or physics they wanted. I graduated Magma Cum Laude from this college.
During 2000, I got my first middle school/high school teaching job. I taught General Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I tutored students both before and after school because it was needed. In class, I utilized projects, real-world problem solving, group work, a little bit of lecture, one-on-one instruction, review games, calculator-based instructions, quizzes, and exams. Not only have I taught in public school classrooms, but I've also taught hybrid and online courses.
I taught mathematics and physics for a total of 22 years both at the high school level and at the college level. I stayed at the public schools for 14 years and earned my master's degree in education (curriculum & instruction/technology emphasis). When I finished my master's degree, I had a GPA of 3.98. I then moved to the community college level. Even though I became an instructional designer, I have continued to teach mathematics each semester (online). Don't be afraid to meet with me. I am extremely friendly, my students enjoyed my class, and I can help you to learn whatever you need. Thank you!
