Hello I am Margaret! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science engineering from UCLA. I was fortunate to have several teachers who imbued the idea that learning was not just rote memorization of facts and formulas but actually an investigation into the ideas and principles that organize our lives and our universe. This is the approach I bring to tutoring. I find it allows students to feel less pressure and stress about the subject and replaces it with a genuine interest and curiosity in learning. When appropriate, I use hands on experiments and connect formulas to examples they can see in the real world. I use organized lesson plans but leave plenty of time for questions and discussion as well. I ascertain where the student is having the most trouble and focus time there, to get past the difficulty and move forward.

I tutored children in reading and math for 2 years in high school and 2 years in college. Helping children gain the confidence to accomplish their goals and enjoy learning, was very rewarding. I tutored high school and college age students in algebra, and chemistry for 10 years at an educational non profit. Being patient and supportive was important in inspiring their interest and success in their academic goals and beyond!

I work to inspire students to have a love and curiosity for learning and am happy to collaborate with students and their parents to help them succeed. Please contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson. Thank you!
