I enjoy working with individual students and helping them with material that can sometimes seem less than exciting. The best reward is seeing the 'aha' moment when they understand the logic behind the material, rather than just memorizing steps. As a graduate student, I was awarded a 'teaching fellowship' for teaching excellence. I believe that my experience since then has only made me a better teacher.

I bring a combination of graduate-level education in math and economics and real-world work experience in both fields. I have experience teaching in the classroom for over ten years, but enjoy working with individual students more. I have recently completed a statistics book, 'Help Me Learn Statistics.'

Just as I would prepare before going into a classroom to teach, I like to go into our tutoring sessions well prepared. I may ask for sample problems for me to review before we meet.

I am now offering small group sessions at over a 40% discount off my regular fee. They are available evenings and weekends, have a maximum of 6 students in each session, and last for 3 hours. Each session consists of lecture mixed with time for Q&A. These are designed for current students and those who need review as a prerequisite for another course. The following sessions are now available. Let me know if you would like more information or would be interested in a similar session for another subject I teach.

Session 1 - Hypotheses Regarding the Mean
The first session includes descriptive statistics, writing hypotheses regarding means, and testing those hypotheses using the normal distribution and Student's T distribution.

Session 2 - ANOVA

Session 3 - Linear Regression

Session 4 - Chi-Squared Tests for Goodness of Fit and Independence
The fourth session includes the test for goodness of fit to a given distribution and the test for independence of two categorical variables.

Session 5 - Tests of Hypothesis Regarding the Correlation, Variance, and Percentiles

Macintosh

I have been a Mac user since 2010. I have set up my Mac and friends' computers to synch with Apple iOS devices and iCloud, as well as customizing my Mac to also run Windows programs through Parallels. I have a background in computer science, first working on mainframe systems and PCs later. Before purchasing a Mac I had used PCs for 25 years and understand the pain that comes with switching, as well as the joy that comes from having done so!
SAS,

SAS

I began using SAS in 1981 and maintain a license on my computer. I have taught SAS within businesses and use it in consulting. Much of my experience is in writing SAS code, but I also have experience using and teaching SAS Enterprise Guide. I think that teaching SAS is best done by using examples. My SAS license allows me to do this.

Finite Math,

Finite Math

Finite math combines material from statistics, probability, algebra, linear algebra and matrices, and linear programming. I have completed full courses in these subjects. I taught finite math at Cornell University while I was working on my doctorate there and have since taught it and tutored in it. The material is often presented from a business/ finance point of view. I have degrees in both math and economics. My background in economics and experience consulting allows me to explain the course material as it pertains to the student's other studies.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I have studied linear algebra at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I have also worked with linear and nonlinear programs. This work involves writing and solving large programs (thousands of variables and constraints) for businesses and an international organization.

A true God send - I could not have asked for anyone better!!

Donna is brilliant - truly a fabulous teacher - she’s so hands on, calm, and competent. Never in my life - have I found anyone to work with that is this amazing - not to mention her work is flawless. She saved me from not doing well at all - in a 4 week MBA level data through analysis class - she can handle anything.

Daughter is thrilled

Donna knew right away how to jump in and help. She has been an excellent teacher and coach and my daughter is far less stressed about statistics now. So happy we found her and she was able to schedule right away!

Knowledgeable & Attentive

Donna has been tutoring me in economics since the start of spring 2022 semester and I could not be happier with her help. I currently have two economics professors who don’t effectively teach their students and Donna has helped me stay caught up with the class and show up prepared for each exam. She is calm and patient and I have never had such a positive experience with a tutor. Everything I ask she has taught effectively and I can’t send enough praises her way for the help I have received!

Went from failing to an A after 1 lesson!

Donna is an absolutely incredible statistics tutor. I scheduled a session with her after I absolutely bombed a quiz in my statistics quiz and just a week and an hour and a half later, I got an A on my next quiz! She warmly and patiently explains complicated concepts in a way that is way easier to understand than my lesson material and makes the whole experience a lot less scary. I cannot recommend Donna enough.
