Bio

Hi, I'm Owen!

I graduated with a B.S.E. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan and currently work in Chicago as a software engineer at a proprietary trading firm.

Throughout the past 10 years, I have tutored students across a myriad of STEM subjects including Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Physics, Chemistry, and more. Hi, I'm Owen!

I graduated with a B.S.E. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan and currently work in Chicago as a software engineer at a proprietary trading firm.

Throughout the past 10 years, I have tutored students across a myriad of STEM subjects including Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Physics, Chemistry, and more. I also served as an Instructional Aide at UM for EECS 482 (Introduction to Operating Systems) where I led classroom discussions and worked 1-on-1 with students during office hours. In my teaching philosophy, I always emphasize establishing a solid understanding of the underlying concepts instead of encouraging rote memorization or problem recognition. This has helped students significantly improve their grasp of subjects beyond just completing school assignments.

At work, I'm part of a team of talented developers who improve and maintain our automated trading systems, and I have had the fortune of learning from my colleagues. Outside of work, I also spend some free time embarking on personal and open-source projects that pique my interest. All of these experiences greatly influence my teaching and have given me a lot of insight into the important aspects of development and design that (unfortunately) aren't always emphasized enough in school.

Finally, I've loved teaching for as long as I can remember! I hope you'll see that, as I help you hone your skills, learn a new concept, or brush up on forgotten fundamentals, you also give me the opportunity to pursue my passion.

Outstanding Statistics Tutor

I met with Owen five times during a four week period, preceding the end of an online Statistics Course that I was barely maintaining an acceptable grade in. Meeting with Owen was exactly what I needed in order to understand the very challenging concepts. He was very patient and clear in his explanations. He gave great examples if I wasn't fully understanding something, and utilized a chalk board to draw out examples -- which was exactly like being in a "real" class. He also made sure we didn't waste a minute of time. If we had a few extra minutes at the end, instead of leaving early he would review concepts that we covered that session to reinforce the subject matter. Owen was worth every penny, and had I not met with him I would not have gotten the grade I needed. He is exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly, and thoughtful. I highly recommend him if you need help with Statistics!

Patient and Knowledgeable

Owen is great! He simplified all of the topics I was having trouble with in Stats 250 by helping me really understand the concepts. He not only taught me how to solve the problems, but also explained why I was solving the problems the way I was, and explained the importance of each step in the problem-solving process. He uses clear, easy-to-grasp examples every step of the way.

Owen is able to explain things in simpler terms to make things more understandable. He teaches the concepts of statistics so you are better able to apply it to all statistics questions.
