My name is Alex, I graduated from high school and am currently finishing up my undergrad in Social Studies Education. I fell in love with history because I find similarities between the current day and days of old which I feel can help us navigate our way into the future. I also enjoy studying the progress of humanity through anthropology, more specifically archaeology. History today is taught in a way I believe is inherently boring for a subject that is so vast and complex. It’s my goal to make history interesting and fun through making it relatable, relevant, and meaningful in general.

Teaching was not my original plan but as I got into my education classes is when it really sparked my interest. History as a subject is intended to help students be able to see things through other perspectives and look at the full context in events through research and analysis. Being able to help students grow their sense of empathy in this way I believe is like teaching them to look beyond their perspective in their future and current situations and make intelligent decisions and form their own opinions based on what they know and see.

I’m well rounded in my history studies. I did two years of my undergraduate degree at Louisiana college where I was able to learn about American history (I&II), History of the American South (pre- and post-Civil War), Historeography, Ancient Near East, Political Science, World Geography, and basic Civilization courses. I’m currently finishing my degree at Northwestern State University where I’ve had the pleasure of studying Louisiana History and Anthropology so far with more histories and social studies to come.

I have instructed lessons in a classroom before as well as tutored classmates in the past, but I would like to grow my expertise as a teacher to prepare for the day when I have my own classroom.
