About John

Bio

I work full time as an engineer for a defense contractor, but I have always had a passion for helping students understand difficult concepts. It is part of my job to explain difficult and highly technical concepts to colleagues and customers that don't have technical backgrounds. This skill translates well to tutoring. I can help students learn the language of mathematics by developing a systematic problem solving approach to tackle tough problems and develop confidence for exams.

I have 6 years of experience tutoring students in high school and college math. My education experience includes a B.S. in both Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from California State University Chico. I'm currently enrolled in San Jose State University pursuing a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on dynamics and control systems.

Having a degree in Applied Mathematics afforded me the opportunity to not only learn the "how" of high school and undergraduate mathematics, but also the "why" that many teachers and other tutors may over-look, or simply don't have altogether. This insight provides different ways of explaining obscure topics through easy to digest examples and step-by-step processes that can easily be applied to different types of problems.

Please feel free to contact me for online help in these subject areas. I look forward to helping you succeed!
