I am a Massachusetts licensed mathematics teacher, and tutor of 9+ years - including SAT Math and English for The Princeton Review. Since 2010, I have tutored students in Standardized Tests (SAT, ACT, GRE, ASVAB, GED), K-12 Math, Chess, Martial Arts, and even Guitar. My SAT, ACT, GED (High School Equivalency Exam) tutoring is focused on a two tier approach: content and strategy. Standardized tests, especially the SAT, ACT, and GED are designed to be tricky, so understanding how to approach a math problem is at least as important as knowing the content being tested. For this reason, I show my students time saving tips, tricks, and shortcuts that can increase scores on the SAT, ACT, and GED math sections. I help instill confidence and reduce test anxiety through positive reinforcement, so students believe in their abilities to succeed.

When I tutor for the ASVAB and GRE, I emphasize content review because many students learned the material years ago and have not practiced it since high school or even earlier. I fill academic gaps and teach the skills that are necessary for success in those specific tests. Through practice problems and drills, I help familiarize students with the types of questions asked on the ASVAB and GRE, so they are prepared on test day.

My K-12 Academic Math tutoring is based on the philosophy that math is pyramid. Students need to master math from the ground up, so that they can continue to excel in increasingly complex disciplines. For example, Arithmetic is a prerequisite for Algebra 1, and Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for SAT Math. The SAT Reading section tests a very specific skill set: the ability to synthesize the content of a passage and answer evidenced based questions. It is unlike a typical high school English exam because it tests a more literal interpretation of the text, as opposed to relying on inferences, opinions, and “thinking outside the box.” Doing well in this section requires a bit of a mind shift and a different way of thinking about the questions. The SAT Writing section tests a student’s command of grammar, sentence structure, standard English conventions, and passage organization. Knowing a handful of grammar rules and best practices for writing can improve scores fairly quickly. A lot of students struggle with this section because it tests English rules, as opposed to the colloquial syntax that we are all used to. The way we speak and write in everyday life is not always grammatically correct (who vs whom, it vs it’s, semicolon vs colon), but we usually understand the context anyway, so we don’t pay attention to the grammatical mistakes. Since the SAT Writing section specifically tests these rules, I teach my students proper English conventions and best practices - through a combination of examples, drills, and homework assignments, students are able to practice these skills and feel more confident on test day.

I have been professionally tutoring for the SAT since 2010, am a former SAT English and Math private instructor and classroom teacher for The Princeton Review, and am a Massachusetts licensed teacher. The SAT Writing section tests a student’s command of grammar, sentence structure, standard English conventions, and passage organization. Knowing a handful of grammar rules and best practices for writing can improve scores fairly quickly. A lot of students struggle with this section because it tests English rules, as opposed to the colloquial syntax that we are all used to. The way we speak and write in everyday life is not always grammatically correct (who vs whom, it vs it’s, semicolon vs colon), but we usually understand the context anyway, so we don’t pay attention to the grammatical mistakes. Since the SAT Writing section specifically tests these rules, I teach my students proper English conventions and best practices - through a combination of examples, drills, and homework assignments, students are able to practice these skills and feel more confident on test day.

Knowledgeable, organized, and patient

Right from the onset, Leo showed mastery in his ability to tutor young adults. Within a short period of time, he was able to identify how my son learns, and apply techniques to best prepare for his SAT. He was well prepared with documentation, practice workbooks, websites, and directions on how to best apply learning techniques to optimize my son's SAT score. He was patient as well, and kept a decent pace. We never had to wait for to fit into his tutoring schedule and when we were late a few times, he quickly adjusted his schedule to meet our needs. We applaud Leo on a job well done!
