I am a Massachusetts licensed mathematics teacher, and tutor of 9+ years - including SAT Math and English for The Princeton Review. Since 2010, I have tutored students in Standardized Tests (SAT, ACT, GRE, ASVAB, GED), K-12 Math, Chess, Martial Arts, and even Guitar. I write custom practice problems and create worksheets so students can benefit from additional assignments.

My SAT, ACT, GED (High School Equivalency Exam) tutoring is focused on a two tier approach: content and strategy. I teach both the academic concepts tested (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, etc.), as well as the best methods for problem solving (Picking Your Own Number, Plugging In, etc.). Standardized tests, especially the SAT, ACT, and GED are designed to be tricky, so understanding how to approach a math problem is at least as important as knowing the content being tested. For this reason, I show my students time saving tips, tricks, and shortcuts that can increase scores on the SAT, ACT, and GED math sections. I help instill confidence and reduce test anxiety through positive reinforcement, so students believe in their abilities to succeed.

When I tutor for the ASVAB and GRE, I emphasize content review because many students learned the material years ago and have not practiced it since high school or even earlier. I fill academic gaps and teach the skills that are necessary for success in those specific tests. Through practice problems and drills, I help familiarize students with the types of questions asked on the ASVAB and GRE, so they are prepared on test day.

My K-12 Academic Math tutoring is based on the philosophy that math is pyramid. Students need to master math from the ground up, so that they can continue to excel in increasingly complex disciplines. For example, Arithmetic is a prerequisite for Algebra 1, and Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for SAT Math. For this reason, I try to fill any academic gaps to ensure that students are ready and prepared for the next level in their math education. I am available to assist

I have been using Microsoft Excel for work purposes since 2010. I am expert on using Excel for business analytics (ROI, P&L, Cost/Benefit Analysis etc.), financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting. I can help with pivot tables, formula writing, graphing, and other spreadsheet building requirements. I frequently used Excel worksheets in presentations to C-Level executives, business partners, and clients, so I am happy to assist with putting together decks and collateral.

Elementary Education

Common Core,

Common Core

As a former Massachusetts licensed full time Math Teacher, I taught in a classroom setting according to the Common Core standards. I designed mini units and lesson plans to model the math standards by domain. My pedagogy was consistent with Bloom’s Taxonomy and focused on content differentiation. In addition, I have experience teaching Common Core to students with IEPs and ISPs for ADHD, ODD, Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma, who benefit from a more personalized approach to instruction.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I am a Massachusetts licensed Math Teacher with Common Core teaching experience. I a happy to help with Elementary Math homework, classwork, test preparation, and confidence building! Topics I cover include: arithmetic, decimals/fractions/percents, number operations, graphing, properties of numbers, units & measurement, algebraic thinking, etc. I can also help with Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and beyond - solving for “x”, inequalities, functions, geometry, ratios & proportions, isolating variables, manipulating equations, graphing, working with polynomials, understanding word problems, etc. I can help with homework, classwork, and test prep - I have personally taught using the Common Core standards, so I am familiar with the requirements and procedures. Since math is pyramid and relies on prior knowledge, I try to fill any academic gaps to ensure that students are successful in both Elementary Math, and subsequent math disciplines. I not only teach students how to solve problems, but also explain why the methods work - this approach pushes students to develop independence in solving problems and gain a deeper understanding of math. I help instill confidence and reduce test anxiety through positive reinforcement, so students believe in their abilities to succeed at Elementary Math and beyond.

SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

I am a former SAT English and Math Instructor for The Princeton Review, and Massachusetts licensed teacher. I have been tutoring for the SAT for 7+ years. The SAT Reading section tests a very specific skill set: the ability to synthesize the content of a passage and answer evidenced based questions. It is unlike a typical high school English exam because it tests a more literal interpretation of the text, as opposed to relying on inferences, opinions, and “thinking outside the box.” Doing well in this section requires a bit of a mind shift and a different way of thinking about the questions. For this reason, I show my students various strategic approaches and time saving tricks specific to tackling the SAT Reading passages.
SAT Writing

SAT Writing

I have been professionally tutoring for the SAT since 2010, am a former SAT English and Math private instructor and classroom teacher for The Princeton Review, and am a Massachusetts licensed teacher. The SAT Writing section tests a student’s command of grammar, sentence structure, standard English conventions, and passage organization. Knowing a handful of grammar rules and best practices for writing can improve scores fairly quickly. A lot of students struggle with this section because it tests English rules, as opposed to the colloquial syntax that we are all used to. The way we speak and write in everyday life is not always grammatically correct (who vs whom, it vs it’s, semicolon vs colon), but we usually understand the context anyway, so we don’t pay attention to the grammatical mistakes. Since the SAT Writing section specifically tests these rules, I teach my students proper English conventions and best practices - through a combination of examples, drills, and homework assignments, students are able to practice these skills and feel more confident on test day.

I am a Massachusetts licensed Math Teacher, and former instructor for The Princeton Review. I have been tutoring since 2010, and am an expert on helping students succeed at Algebra 1 – solving for “x”, functions, system of equations, inequalities, ratios & proportions, isolating variables, manipulating equations, graphing, working with polynomials, understanding word problems, etc. I can help with homework, classwork, and test prep – I have personally taught using the Common Core standards, so I am familiar with the requirements and procedures. Since math is pyramid and relies on prior knowledge, I try to fill any academic gaps to ensure that students are successful in both Algebra 1, and subsequent math disciplines. I am a Massachusetts licensed Math Teacher, and former SAT Math instructor for The Princeton Review. I am an expert in helping students succeed in Algebra 2, and can help with homework, classwork, and test prep – I have personally taught using the Common Core standards, so I am familiar with the requirements and procedures. Because most students take Algebra 2 two years after Algebra 1 (with Geometry in between), they forget some of the concepts they learned and struggle with new material. For this reason, I work with my clients to fill academic gaps (content from previous disciplines including Algebra 1, Geometry, etc.) to ensure that they are successful in Algebra 2 and beyond.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have been tutoring Middle School and High School math for years, and Geometry is a tricky subject for a lot of students. Especially proofs! This is because Geometry is more logic based than math based. I show students how to think about the subject in effective ways so that the problems make sense - for example, breaking down a complex polygon into familiar, smaller shapes and then proving congruence and similarity for those (instead of trying to tackle the entire complex shape at once). I can help with homework, classwork, and test preparation.

Prealgeba is one of the most important math disciplines because it the foundation for all subsequent math topics including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and standardized test math including the PSAT, SSAT, SAT, ACT, and even GRE. As a Massachusetts licensed Middle School Math Teacher and former SAT Math tutor for The Princeton Review, I see firsthand how important Prealgebra is to success in high school math and in standardized tests for college admittance. For this reason, I work with my students to ensure that they have a solid understanding of the building blocks of math, so that they feel confident moving forward. I am happy to help with Prealgebra homework, classwork, and test prep.

As a former SAT Math instructor for the Princeton Review, I have been tutoring for standardized tests since 2010. I focus my ACT math instruction on a two tier approach: content and strategy. Students will typically have already learned the content they need to know for the ACT by the time they take the test, but they may be out of practice, and may have even forgotten some of the topics. In addition, the ACT math section is designed to be tricky, so students may have never been exposed to the types of questions or the specific ways the questions are asked. Knowledgeable, organized, and patient

Right from the onset, Leo showed mastery in his ability to tutor young adults. Within a short period of time, he was able to identify how my son learns, and apply techniques to best prepare for his SAT. He was well prepared with documentation, practice workbooks, websites, and directions on how to best apply learning techniques to optimize my son's SAT score. He was patient as well, and kept a decent pace. We never had to wait for to fit into his tutoring schedule and when we were late a few times, he quickly adjusted his schedule to meet our needs. We applaud Leo on a job well done!

Very knowledgeable and strategic tutor for the ACT and SAT

Leo is a great tutor. He is skilled in two particular ways: 1) Content. He knows and loves math and is excellent at explaining things. 2) He also knows that strategy is important and focuses on that, too. He is upbeat, enthusiastic, and very flexible and nice to work with. He loves teaching and it shows!

Best Math Tutor In the World

Leo R. has taught me a lot. We worked on all aspects of the SAT over the summer like SAT math, SAT reading, SAT writing, and lots of SAT strategies. I went through many tutors before Leo and Leo is by far the best on the face of this earth. I'm currently a sophomore and by senior year I expect a 1601/1600.
