Hi! I'm Eric! I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatrical Lighting Design from Cal State Fullerton. I have two years experience as a tutor in the San Dieguito Union High School District. I mostly tutored math but I also worked in two different AVID classes as well as a READ 180 class. I worked with students individually and in small groups and really enjoyed the different challenges of each. I prefer working with students one-on-one because it provides us the opportunity to get to the heart of the student's struggles and figure out how to help them understand the material better. I know my strengths and weaknesses as a tutor well. I know the subjects I excelled at in school and the ones I struggled with and why. This helps me tailor my tutoring approach to each student to help them in a way that will make them feel more confident about their understanding of the material.

Anyone can give you the answer to a problem but you learn nothing that way. Next time a similar problem comes up, you will not know how to answer it because you were given the answer without understanding how to get there. The most rewarding part of being a tutor is helping the student understand the concepts of the problem and helping them work out the answer themselves. This way, they will know how to find the answer the next time a similar problem comes up.

I excelled at Algebra in high school because I have a good head for numbers and formulas as well as a good calculator. Simple Algebra is used quite often in daily life and sometimes, even the complicated stuff is useful. I always learned the material and took notes to better understand it. There are a lot of formulas in Algebra and what seems like a lot of complicated equations that make little sense. As a tutor, my goal is to help students break down the complicated equations into simpler parts that they do understand to help them figure out what they do not understand. Once they understand and grasp the individual parts, they can put them together to figure out the sum

I have always excelled at spelling, grammar and reading comprehension. I consistently tested above grade level in reading and always read advanced books. I am a great editor and I have become a great writer through practice and good teaching. I would love to pass on my knowledge to the next generation so that they too can have these skills.

American History

I have always loved History. American History has its highlights and low points but it is still a fascinating subject to study and one that I excel at and enjoy studying. It can sometimes be difficult to understand but it can be done and I would love to help make it happen!

Algebra 1

I got an A in Algebra 1 when I was in 9th grade. It wasn't always easy but I had a great teacher, always took notes and did my homework to the best of my ability. Having a good scientific calculator helped but I earned that grade because I worked hard and developed methods to figure out tough problems on my own.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

For all intents and purposes, I took Chemistry three times. I got an A all three times in case you were wondering. I took it in my Junior year because it was required. Then as a Senior, I was a peer tutor for that same teacher's Chemistry class. I did this because Chemistry was easy for me and I wanted to help make it easier for other students. Then I got to MiraCosta and because I didn't take AP Chemistry (or any APs for that matter), I had to take Chem 100 there. I know what it takes to do well in Chemistry and I would like nothing more than to pass that knowledge on to those who can benefit from it.

Tennis

I have been playing tennis since I was very young. After making the team my freshman year and seeing the competition, I started taking lessons. I was #3 singles on varsity my junior year and #1 singles my senior year. Tennis is a great game and I would love to help others see it that way.

Eric W. is an easy going, kind, personable tutor. He comes prepared, is flexible and knowledgeable.

I hired Eric W. to help prepare my 18-year-old son, who had left High School in 10th grade, to take his GED. After just four one-hour tutoring sessions, my son passed the Science portion. I am very glad to have Eric W. support my son's success.
