I have a strong business background distinguished by a love for training, tutoring and coaching. For the last 2 years, I've been a well-respected ESOL teacher at the Adult Learning Center of Queens Library in Jamaica, NY. I've earned a reputation for compassion and for helping my students achieve their goals both in and out of the classroom, whether it be finding a new job or training program, obtaining permanent residency or citizenship, or maneuvering through complicated healthcare forms....

I have a strong business background distinguished by a love for training, tutoring and coaching. For the last 2 years, I've been a well-respected ESOL teacher at the Adult Learning Center of Queens Library in Jamaica, NY. I've earned a reputation for compassion and for helping my students achieve their goals both in and out of the classroom, whether it be finding a new job or training program, obtaining permanent residency or citizenship, or maneuvering through complicated healthcare forms. I held prior tutoring roles with Queens Library from 2015 to 2016 (and previously from 1991 to 1993) and also held an ESOL tutoring position with LaGuardia Community College from 1993 to 1996.

Notably, until recently, my tutoring assignments were held in addition to a busy leadership career in the non-profit sector. My nonprofit sector successes culminated in a 14-year career with Queen’s College (QC), part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. I held progressively responsible and often overlapping roles in which I facilitated and supported regulatory compliance and assurance efforts for campus-wide research activities involving the CUNY Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Prior to Queen’s College, from 1994 to 2000, I served as the director of research administration for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in White Plains, NY, operating the society’s $26.2 million research funding program. I also enjoyed prior career success as grant administrator for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, New York, NY and as membership director for the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning in Jamaica, New York, where, among other duties, I served as writer/editor of Centerview, the center’s newsletter. Today, I draw on all of these skills and experiences and am available to help students struggling to master English — from beginner through advanced level. I eagerly look forward to partnering with you to achieve you

ESL/ESOL

After receiving my TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification, I served as ESOL Conversation Group Facilitator at Queens Public Library - Hollis Branch. Here I worked with adults whose English language proficiency ranged from low to high intermediate level. By the end of the fall semester, a student was able to secure an internship with an accounting firm. I was subsequently recruited by the Queens Public Library - Central Branch to serve as ESOL Teacher for the Adult Learning Center. I worked with adults whose English language proficiency ranged from low to high intermediate level. Here I coached students to achieve personal goals (e.g., moving up to next level of ESOL program, gaining entry to a job or training program, passing GED, or achieving U.S. permanent residence/citizenship).
