Hi! My name is Taufiqa, and I am currently a junior at City College. I graduated from The Bronx High School of Science in 2021 and I am now studying Civil Engineering. For the past four years, I’ve tutored many students across various ages and subjects, including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, ACT and SHSAT math, elementary ELA and science, as well as NY standardized state exams.

I originally tutored for about two years with an SHSAT tutoring program and taught 7th and 8th grader algebra and geometry. I would work with the teachers teaching the daily lessons and also worked with students one-on-one if they needed additional assistance. Additionally, I started tutoring a couple of kids who needed extra help and I worked with them in almost every subject.
With about four years of experience with math tutoring, I have helped every single one of my students gain a greater grasp on math foundations and higher order thinking skills. I have helped a student with SHSAT math for three consecutive months and improved her scores from a low 400s to high 600s. She got accepted into the Bronx High School of Science. After tutoring, she went from never wanting to focus on math to now asking me for more challenging problems. Personally, I've aced my standardized exams, scoring a 33 out of 36 on the ACT and a 780 on the math section of the SAT.

My style of tutoring comes from some of the best teachers and professors I’ve met throughout my academic career. I’ve found that I learn best when teachers help to create a strong bond with the students so I feel comfortable learning with them. I apply this same technique with my own students. My favorite part of tutoring is guiding students through problems allowing them to achieve their “lightbulb” moment at their own pace.
