Hello, I'm Terrence!

I received a 4.0 GPA and a Math Education degree from the U. of Kentucky in 2009. I graduated in 3.5 years, scored a perfect 800 on the Math portion of the GRE, worked as a Teacher's Assistant (TA) for Calculus I, and received the Kentucky Mathematician of the year award in 2008. (I am the sharpest spoon!) I also passed the first Actuary Exam (Probability).

I finished 2019 at the 99.96 percentile of Wzyant tutors. This made me one of the top 10 most active tutors...

This made me one of the top 10 most active tutors on Wyzant out of a total of 17,575 tutors! Also, I spent 38% of my tutoring time doing all levels of Calculus.

From 2007 to '11, I owned and operated my own tutoring business full-time. I regularly tutored a wide variety of students, ranging from elementary schoolers to upperclassmen Engineering majors to personalized test prep (ACT, SAT, GRE).

I started tutoring online in 2015 (discovered Wyzant in October 2017), and I am genuinely obsessed.

My love for teaching/Math is genetic (Mother is retired Elementary teacher, Father is retired Math/Physics teacher, his Mother was a teacher/librarian), but it was accelerated when my loving parents arranged 1:1 advanced tutoring for me starting in first grade.

Because of my vast experience learning and teaching, I'm very confident I can help ANYONE quickly gain a MUCH better understanding of their Math material. Also, we may possibly have FUN!

A little about my life outside tutoring:

From 2011-'15, I worked in the solar energy industry (sales, project management, customer service). Although I love and respect the power of the Sun, I REALLY missed tutoring. Sales can be a dog-eat-dog world, and I missed the youthful and curious energy of students. (My favorite Einstein quote: 'I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.')

I'm extremely grateful to be tutoring again, and these 4 years provided me invaluable experience as a listener. (My wife, Lizzie, may disagree.)

Statistics

Statistics is my favorite Math class. While many people complain about "never needing to know this stuff in the real world", Statistics is used everyday in all walks of life. I truly enjoy helping others with AP Statistics, and I've tutored over 20 students in AP Stats.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I dream of Algebra, and it is part of everyone's everyday life. It brings me joy to help anyone understand Algebra better. I have tutored 15 Algebra students (5 online).
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I taught myself Algebra 2 the summer after my freshman year of high school. Algebra is used throughout life. (Especially in all future Math classes.)
Calculus,

Calculus

I have tutored Calculus for over 500 hours! I was a Teacher's Assistant for Calculus I at UK, where I led 20 person recitations for 2 years. I have tutored over 40 students in Calculus, including Engineering majors in Calculus I, II, and III. I earned an A+ in Calculus I, II, III, and IV, which led me to be named the Kentucky Mathematician of the year for 2008. If you can't tell already, I absolutely love Calculus, and I love helping others UNDERSTAND Calculus.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I took Honors Pre-Calculus my sophomore year, after teaching myself Algebra II in the previous summer. In college, I took Calculus I, II, III, and IV. I have tutored over 10 students (four online) in Pre-Calculus.

My profile shows I excel at Mathematics and standardized test-taking, but it doesn't show my competitiveness. I view life as a (mainly) fun game, and I'm great at helping students with strategies on how to 'beat' these standardized tests.

Experience & Excellent Tutor!

I couldn’t be happier with the tutoring Terrance provided to my daughter. I notice she was smiling and appeared calm the entire session. Her last tutoring session she prepared for a test with him she scored a 18.5 out of 19. We look forward to her doing as well with the next test. Terrance is excellent!
