I began tutoring in 2009 as a private math tutor in high school and continued through college. I graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in December 2015. I have been working as an engineer for a medical device manufacturer since then. I began tutoring in 2009 as a private math tutor in high school and continued through college. I graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in December 2015. I have been working as an engineer for a medical device manufacturer since then. I have also been a part time tutor since I graduated college, helping students with various levels of engineering, math, science, and test prep.

My degree required years of math and mechanical engineering classes, which I performed very well in. I have taken all of the math classes that I selected, along with calculus III (3 dimensional calculus and vector analysis), differential equations, and matrices. I have taken years of classes in physics, engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, vibrations, turbomachinery, materials, product design, and manufacturing processes. I have a lot of experience with SolidWorks (CSWA Certified), C++ programming, Matlab, and Microsoft Office Programs (Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). I also performed very well on the SAT, the SAT physics and math subject tests, and the ACT. Working as an engineer has continued to expand my own critical thinking and enforce the material learned in school.

With every student, we work through new material and improve study skills and critical thinking. Rather than giving students the answer, I guide them through problems step by step so they grasp the process and material. I can simplify the material so that it is easier to understand. I pay attention to and focus on areas of struggle. I am very patient and flexible and apply different teaching methods to find which works best for each student. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me the opportunity to use my skills to improve students' grades and give them the confidence to succeed. To me, developing study skills to be used in all subjects is just as important as learning the material.

ACT Math

I received a 35 on the math section of the ACT.
Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I took differential equations at Penn State and received an A-. Since then, I have used differentials in most of my engineering classes and have continued to improve my skills at taking derivatives and integrals.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I have taken many math classes that incorporate linear algebra. I took math 220 at Penn State which involved solving systems of equations using matrices. I also took math 230 at Penn State, which was calculus and vector analysis of three dimensional equations. I just graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering,

Mechanical Engineering

I just graduated in December 2015 from Penn State with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I have a lot of experience with engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, vibrations, turbomachinery, materials, product design, and manufacturing processes. I have experience with SolidWorks, C++ programming, and Matlab. I also worked in a team on two technical design projects. One project involved improving the thermal efficiency of a building on campus, which entailed finding possible solutions to insulate the building, testing the possible solutions in a hotbox experiment, and analyzing costs and energy savings of each solution. The second project involved redesigning the power transmission components of a 3-axis CNC milling machine, which entailed redesigning elements such as the frame and motor housing to increase accuracy and reduce costs. We also used the PRIMA matrix to determined better manufacturing processes for lower costs, shorter manufacturing time, easier assembly, and higher strength.

Great Help

Janelle was friendly and approachable. She reviewed previous trouble spots (9th grade geometry). Seemed to get daughter on board and engaged. We'll see how the next quizzes/tests go. Stay tuned. UPDATE - As we approach the end of the year Janelle has helped daughter right the ship and get back to her previous high performance in math. It is a shame we can't continue as we get closer to the end of the year and Regents exam, but I have nothing but positive things to say about Janelle. Thank you.

Very patient and very smart

Janelle was very easy to understand. Also very patient. Janelle taught me biochemistry, which I was having a hard time understanding. I think I will achieve in science because of Janelle.
