The AP United States History (APUSH) test is considered by many high school students to be THE hardest AP test. APUSH classroom teachers assign copious amounts of reading each and every week. The reading is dense, but necessary. It is very easy for a student to quickly fall behind. These long and tedious reading assignments really highlight discrepancies in students' reading comprehension skills. I have worked with APUSH students in both Fairfax, Montgomery, and in private schools who found that their classroom teacher simply could not teach everything that is necessary to score a 4 or 5. All of my students have needed extensive help with the Document Based Questions writing section which is a substantial part of the APUSH test. I feel that I am uniquely qualified to be an APUSH tutor. I hold an undergraduate degree in American Studies from Mount Saint Mary's University and I hold a Masters in Education from George Washington University. I taught in Montgomery and Fairfax counties, as well as in New Haven, CT, for 7 years. While in Connecticut, I participated in a Teaching American History grant through Sacred Heart University in partnership with Yale University. I have completed History Alive! training. I love American history and I know how to teach the subject, breaking it down into comprehensible segments, and how to make it fun since it is a passion of mine. I also know how to instruct students so they can improve their reading comprehension and writing, as well as study and test taking skills.
