I graduated cum laude in 2022 from the University of Missouri with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a minor in psychology. During my time as an undergrad, I found that I had a passion and a skill for science communication and teaching. I discovered this when I first taught a 1 credit hour pro-seminar course for biochemistry freshmen to help them get acquainted with the campus and learn basic skills such as resume/cover letter writing and scientific communication. Being able to support students through their successes and struggles motivated me to continue this work as a peer tutor, where I tutored for the upper-level biochemistry sequence at our university.

I learned so many things in these roles, including that I find having the student-led tutoring sessions, through asking questions and starting with what the student does know, is far more important than me regurgitating facts at them. By utilizing active listening I am able to support students better than lecturing at them. I also have experience working with younger students in my volunteer work and have learned the power of adaptability and working with the student and their families to best achieve their goals. I am always open to suggestions, resources, and constructive feedback to suit you and your student's needs!

I'm confident that I'd be able to tutor students from 6th grade through college. I'm currently receiving my graduate degree in genetic counseling from the University of Connecticut, where my science and psychology knowledge base continues to grow. I look forward to working with you!

Great Tutor

Tutor is very helpful and respectful when reviewing material. Tutor welcomes questions where I never felt judged or nervous to ask to for them to reexplain a topic. She was able to explain topics in multiple ways if I did not understand something the first time and even provided creative analogies or examples on the subject matter so it would stick better. Highly recommend.
