Great Chinese tutor for beginners students (and advanced ones!)

I started taking lessons with Siwen about a month ago and so far it's been a great experience! She's very patient and makes the effort to speak to me in Mandarin about 95% of the time, even if she has to repeat everything many times. She shares materials with me in advance that help me prepare for the class. She also knows to strike the right balance between correcting my pronunciation and letting me make progress and learn new words. She does a great job of pointing where Chinese language structure differs from English and you have to pay extra attention to in order to not make silly mistakes. My wife is Chinese America and has conversational Chinese skills. She's working with Siwen too and has had great results already. Therefore, I would recommend Siwen to anyone that wants to learn Mandarin Chinese, either as a complete beginner like me or as a more advanced student like my wife. Xiexie, Siwen laoshi!

Helpful and attentive to where I need to improve

It was a nice, to the point lesson. We focused on the speaking aspect of the language (which I requested) and she paid attention to which words I didn't know, and near the end of the lesson encouraged me to use them in a sentence for practice.

Siwen is verify helpful and patient with my kid. For now she's assisting with my kid homework and all is great. Although my kid is playful she takes her time to get her settle in and on track. Will post more info as time goes. Excellent so far!

Encouraging, patient and friendly tutor

It is hard to "judge" a tutor proficiency when they speak to your child in a 2nd language, but I am able to visually see that my child and the tutor work well together. Also, Siwen is very patient and readily indicates, yes, these materials are useful. Please bring to each session. And, no, you don't need to bring these. It makes me much more comfortable with the process because she is able to tell me what she needs. I am excited to see my daughter's confidence improve as she improves due to tutoring with Siwen.
