I hold a BA, MA, and PhD in Sociology, and I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at University of Michigan. Most of my teaching experience comes from my time in graduate school. I was a recitation instructor for Statistics for Sociology for multiple semesters, so I have extensive experience teaching statistics and Stata to undergraduate students. I received an average rating of 4.6/5 across four classes. I also have experience teaching Stata to graduate students. I led a workshop on managing longitudinal data using Stata, and I have provided dozens of hours of one-on-one help to colleagues and friends. My teaching experiences are backed by the 5 graduate-level statistics courses I have taken on topics including ordinary least squares regression, categorical data analysis, longitudinal data analysis, causal modeling, and hierarchical linear modeling. My goal is to equip you with the skills needed to overcome Stata's learning curve and become an independent coder and researcher.

I also was a Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Sociology, so I can tutor on foundational concepts central to Sociology. I have published in peer-reviewed sociology journals on topics like family, health, and inequality. I am comfortable tutoring in any undergraduate sociology course. Through publishing, I have experience writing clearly and synthesizing information to form a coherent argument. I can provide feedback on term papers, including their content, organization and structure, readability, and grammar.

As a tutor for math courses, my approach pairs clear instruction with hands-on practice. If students are struggling with a topic, I work hard to identify the root of the confusion and address it, and then return to the topic at hand. Once ready, I let students practice independently. Math is a subject that really builds on itself, so developing a strong foundation is the key to success. I'm open to tutoring students at all levels. I have a very flexible schedule and I'm happy to help- please reach out!

Knowledgable and Answer Driven Tutor

Jake was incredibly responsive when I was searching for a tutor to help with my Ph.D. level Secondary Data Analysis class using Stata. There are many ways to answer the questions I had on my Lab 1 assignment, and he was not only willing to help find the answer but also showed me different codes that I could use to help on future projects. I plan on using Jake again this semester as I know he will come prepared to go over the things I need help with.

Amazing Tutor

Jake is doing a fantastic job working with me and training me in Stata and statistics. He is a top-tier academic, and having access to his expertise and experience here is an amazing opportunity you should not waste. He is also enjoyable to interact with, and I look forward to our weekly sessions.

An Incredible Tutor

In just an hour, Jake taught me how to merge data sets and append multiple files. He not only showcased an unparalleled command over the intricacies of the Stata but also possessed a unique talent for imparting that knowledge. His coaching style was patient, accommodating, and tailored to my specific needs. Despite facing numerous challenges within large files, Christopher's brilliant problem-solving skills and guidance were instrumental in resolving each task effectively.

Knowledgeable tutor

Jake helped me to solve some problems with stata errors, and showed me some usable short cuts for processing huge data files. He helped me review what l learner in class over a year ago. He was very helpful.

Helpful Tutoring and Wonderful Experience

I can run simple procedures in Stata after the tutoring, which makes my learning more efficient. I also appreciate that Jake showed me how to make a do-file and how to save it so that future work will be more efficient.

Fantastic Tutor!

Jake was super nice and helped to explain everything to someone that had no prior experience with STATA. Would definitely recommend to anyone that needs help with their STATA needs

Knowledgable and patient tutor

Jake was able to explain statistics in everyday words and examples, making it much easier to understand the concepts. He is very patient and allowed pauses in our conversations, which allowed me the time to think through the process. I plan to use Jake for my entire semester. I honestly believe he is the only way I can pass my required STATS class.

Awesome tutor!

Jake was awesome. I had a research project due in a day and he helped me work through all my STATA needs. He also offered to help me out outside of our session in case I had more struggles before turning in my paper. He is the man. Definitely meet with Jake!

Excellent Tutor

Jake really knows STATA and came prepared based on the background information I provided in advance. Very efficient and easy to work with. I would highly recommend for anyone working on an regression analysis requiring STATA coding to pull and manipulate large amounts of data to conduct statistical analysis.
