Hi there. If you're reading this, someone's having difficulties in school. It may be your child or grandchild, a niece or nephew, maybe a friend-maybe even you. I would like to be the one to help.

I've been tutoring for four years now, mainly working with kids who have learning differences. These learning differences may be diagnosed as dyslexia, but educational research shows that they are really the result of a brain that is working differently to take in the world. In fact, these studies show that people diagnosed as dyslexic often end up being the new idea folks. Steve Jobs, the man who put the personal computer in everyone's reach, is dyslexic. So is Steven Spielberg. So were Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. So thank goodness for the different ways our brains work.

Given this, I've been trained to use multi-sensory techniques, techniques that cover all the ways we learn. Some of us are visual learners, some of us learn best when we hear and discuss ideas, some people find it helpful to move or have a fidget to keep their muscles active. So I work hard to find the best technique to teach students. Based on their learning styles, I develop daily lesson plans that use their strengths to cover areas that are tough.

In addition to teaching Language Arts and Reading, I have also taught Middle School Study Skills and tutored in High School AP History. I've covered the age range from kindergarten to high school and I love all ages.

So, if you're looking for someone with a lot of knowledge, a sense of humor, tons of patience and boundless enthusiasm-I'm available!

I have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method which uses a phonic, multi-sensory approach to working with students who have learning differences such as dyslexia and dysgraphia. This is the primary method I have used with the students I have worked with the last 8 years when they are having issues with learning to read, spell and write.

I have have attended presentations and discussions about working with students with ADD/HD presented by organizations in town, including Children and Adults with ADD (CHAD). In addition I read articles from professional journals and keep up with the latest research and teaching techniques.

I have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method, which uses multi-sensory techniques to teach reading, spelling and writing to students with dyslexia. I have also been trained in Picture This, which helps in visualization while reading and Handwriting Without Tears. For the first 6 years of my tutoring career, I worked almost exclusively with students who were dyslexic.

Her kindness and knowledge is unmatched

She is so great with my daughter and keeps her engaged the entire time. As a homeschool mom, I know how difficult that can be. She is kind, patient and knowledgeable. She makes my very shy daughter feel comfortable and confident.

knowledgeable and patient tutor

My daughter has a hard time sitting still for very long at all. Cary was able to grab her attention and keep it for way longer than I ever expected. She wanted to know when she was able to see her again! I can't wait to see the progress in the future.

Amazing and patient

Cary teaches according to the Orten-Gillingham "rules-based reading" method and is a truly gifted and patient teacher. Our daughter really enjoys her lessons! Cary connects easily with her students and makes an effort to make the content of her lessons relevant to her students' interests.

Patient and Engaging Tutor

Cary is very patient and has great ideas that get your child engaged. My son doesn't love to sit down and do school work but he enjoys his hour with Cary. She also gives time after his scheduled tutor time to discuss everything with me. It is nice to be included on what they are working on so we can continue it throughout the week.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!

Hiring Cary to tutor our 8 year old son has been one of the best decisions we have ever made! Cary is engaging, extremely knowledgeable, patient, and inspiring. Our son, who "hates" reading, looks forward to every lesson he has with Cary. He often tells us he wishes he could see her more often. Cary has created such a strong bond with our son and really cares about his success. She is amazing at keeping him on track even with his ADHD. His confidence level is continuously rising and we are excited to see how working with Cary will impact his school year! Our only regret is not finding Cary sooner!

Kind and knowledgable tutor

Cary started to work with my 9 year old who needs some revision and with my 12 year old who needs some challenge. My kids were very happy after the first class as she was well prepared and managed to make the class interesting. She has been really kind and patient which is much appreciated!
