Ciao, mi chiamo Silvia e adoro insegnare! Born and raised in beautiful Veneto, Italy, I majored in Italian and Philosophy at Ca’ Foscari University - Venice, earning a Master’s Degree in Philosophy of Language. After a Master's in European Studies at the London School of Economics and working for a decade in the City of London, I moved to New York in 2009: I have been tutoring Italian since then.

I am passionate about my language and teaching in general. I love seeing my students grow and be able to understand/communicate with increasing confidence. Some of my students have or had grandparents originally from Italy and wish to connect to their roots. Others are planning to visit or even move there one day. Others just love the sound of the language and want to immerse themselves in the culture. A classically trained musician and singer myself, I have also helped many singers fully understand and perform opera arias to their best. Whatever your own reason for studying Italian, please know you will find a very supportive environment: I greatly enjoy helping students achieve their potential and realize their dreams.

My approach is flexible depending on your goals, level and interests. My lessons can provide you with college-type instruction which includes a sound grammatical foundation. They are always highly interactive and focus on practicing speaking and comprehension skills in everyday fun situations. If you are a more advanced student keen to build on what you have already acquired in the past, we can select together your favorite topics and work on increasing your vocabulary and fluency. I also teach Italian literature, pronunciation for opera singers, and business Italian.

I offer group and individual lessons lasting from half an hour to one hour, your choice. My cancellation policy is 12 hours.
