Hello! I am a 2018 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh (magna cum laude) with a Bachelor’s Degree in biology. I also completed a major in economics and minors in chemistry and music.
My teaching experience began with 1 year as a TA and course instructor for undergraduates in a medical-school-level physiology course. I then spent 2 years working in K-12 education as an after-school program leader and academic coach at a learning hub during COVID 19 school closures. My focus during my 2 years was on middle school students, so I am particularly adept at navigating the unique challenges to academic success at that age. I also taught an SAT/ACT prep course for high school students.
I've spent time working with students in groups large and small, and one-on-one. I welcome the opportunity to work one-on-one with your student as it allows me to put much more thought into their specific needs and interests. It also allows me to build a trusting connection with them that I believe serves as a strong foundation for persevering through the inevitable challenges that arise while learning.
In my time spent as both a teacher and a student, I’ve found it worthwhile to understand the conceptual foundations of course material, rather than simply memorizing the steps for solving problems on a test. I strive to facilitate that for students because I want them to gain learning skills they can apply beyond any particular course. I also realize that doing well on exams is important to a student’s success now and in the future. Therefore, I will also provide you with practical test-taking strategies to maximize your scores.
In an initial meeting, we will discuss the topics you are seeking help for and the timing (such as course duration and important exam dates) to see if we are a good fit. If I feel your needs match well with my qualifications, then we can set up a regular time for sessions. I am available for both short-term and long-term engagements.
