I have spent the past 6 years teaching at both the university and secondary levels. My graduate work focused on ensuring that students are able to succeed in Latin class and feel proud of what they've accomplished, and I have carried that practice with me throughout my years of teaching. My goal is always to make Latin as fun to learn as possible, and to show students that it can be as easy as learning any other language. I can tutor a student through grammar-translation methodology, proficiency-based methodology, or a mix of both! I’m comfortable tutoring in whatever mode would work best for my students.

I received my MAT in Latin and Classical Humanities at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2018.

I have done several Latin immersion events, dug in Italy and Greece, and have provided workshops on proficiency-based practices for Grand Valley State University. Using my anthropology and archaeology backgrounds, I am able to bring material culture to life for my students, so they can not just read about the ancient world, but see and interact with artifacts as a way to foster a multicultural society in my teaching. In a lot of ways, the languages of societies reflect their cultures, and I love to show the connections between how the language shapes a culture, and vice versa. Through looking at inscriptions, discussing historical events, or just answering questions my students ask me, I aim to bring the ancient world to life.

Helping students to connect to Latin, the cultures, and expressions of the Ancient World is the most marvelous and rewarding career I can imagine for myself and I look forward to sharing that with you!
