Hi, My name is Bryan. I’m a professional freelance Digital Artist of 20 years. My specialty is texture painting.

I have a huge passion for this art form and equally enjoy sharing with other up and coming artists what I’ve learned along the way.

I have worked in film and TV wearing many hats in Digital VFX. From modeling, texturing, lighting, animation and composting. Roto, match move and video editing.

My tools are Maya, Mari, Substance, Body Paint, Photoshop, Mudbox and After Effects that I have used in production for Nickelodeon's Kung Fu Panda, Penguins of Madagascar, Fanboy and Monsters vs Aliens. And a few shots in Spiderman 2, Death Race and Behind Enemy lines. At times I will use a digital camera for reference shots, textures and for just doing photography. Film & digital.

Sorry, no character modeling, rigging, sculpting or character animation as of yet.

I have been an Adjunct Teacher at Fullerton College in the Digital Art Dept., since 2019. I teach After Effects (Motion Graphics, Animation, Tracking, VFX, compositing), Premiere Pro, 3d Texturing (Photoshop, Keyshot and Substance), Digital Imaging (Photography and Photo Editing) and Photoshop.

I taught one semester (3 classes) of CAPS at the Academy of Art University. This was a CG prerequisite course of the basics in Maya, Photoshop and After Effects.

If you want to learn and get a handle on the software or get over the hump in making your project look good, I can help. At your own pace. Where you can appreciate the technical side and enjoy the artistic side even more.

If you love the art of CG, keep at it. Each challenge makes you stronger and stronger.

I hope I can help you out in getting there.

Adobe Photoshop,

Adobe Photoshop

As a freelance CG artist, I have used Photoshop daily for the past 16 years. Photoshop is the go to tool I rely on and I look forward in helping students not to be intimidated by it, but to appreciate its creative value and power.
Film,

Film

If Film in this subject means using film in photography I am very suited for that as I shot with film in school. Shooting 35mm, medium format and 4x5 sheet film. I can teach how you learn light and shadow to meter. Something that is gone with digital cameras with the non professionals. Be it point and shoot or DSLR. If this Film subject means as in cinema, I did major in film while in college a bit before changing it to creative arts with emphasis in film and broadcast production. I shot 16mm film.
Photography,

Video Production

I utilize my skills in photography for composition when shooting video as well as my film background from school. I shoot with a DSLR and edit Adobe Premiere Pro and output for personal projects to Vimeo, YouTube or DVD. I'll use After Effects for titles, Motion Graphics and Slide Shows. I work on edits a lot when cutting my own CG portfolio reels and Slide Shows so timing and best work upfront is critical.

Very patient instructor who met my instructional needs!

Bryan helped me learn fundamental editing on Adobe Premier. The session was easy to follow, and followed the essential items I wanted to learn. We checked all of the boxes! The session allowed Bryan to demonstrate editing on my material, and then he guided my hands on editing. This worked really well. Patient, knowledgeable, very accommodating. I'll definitely use Bryan again!

Experienced and awesome Tutor!

My son has been interested in animation and special effects from an early age, and luckily we live in a time when we can virtually connect with incredible teachers and help our kids develop their passions! Connecting with Brian has been wonderful. He’s an experienced industry professional, but it’s his love and excitement for the field that makes him an invaluable guide and mentor. Special effects is a huge umbrella of tools and skills, with a multitude of softwares necessary to bring ideas to fruition. If you don’t know where to begin, Bryan will guide you in the right direction. We started not knowing what program to start with, Bryan created a series of basic projects to begin with, and in a few lessons we transitioned into an immersive, multi-entry point project involving several programs including After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, green screen work, intro to Maya 3D modeling, and storyboarding, with more programs such as Substance Painter waiting in the wings. What I love about Bryan’s approach is his passion for the work and attention to what his student is excited to explore. He expands the intricacies of the project by organically adding new elements making it a great learning opportunity. This allows the student to see an overall flow of an industry process across multiple departments, as well as elevating leaning maturity, hone note taking skills, concentration, ability to deliver on deadlines, sharpen communication skills, stay accountable and on track; all critical skills, particularly with younger learners. In other words, to quote my son “Brian is awesome!“

super nice guy and very knowledgable.

As I'm a total beginner, Bryan was very helpful in talking about workflow and showed me some things that helped me get my feet wet. We talked about the differences between After Effects and Premiere Pro.
