I love traveling and I love teaching English. I found a way to both, and as all good stories show, there were many twists and turns in my life to make me become a teacher, and, have relevance upon my character and teaching style. I went back to college after I was discharged from the US Army, and I paid for my classes by working at night and going to school by day. I was a cook, waiter, apartment handyman, gas station attendant, and many other jobs while I tried to juggle work and school in the big city. Through every minute of my life I had a science fiction or fantasy book. I graduated from college with a 2-year A.A. in Humanities where I fell in love with Philosophy, Science, and Literature.
Soon after I graduated from Barstow College in the California Desert, I went to Humboldt State University as an English Major. For a short while there, I worked at Humboldt State University Writing Lab; a place where I helped other students tighten their writing. I graduated with a BA in English with emphasis on Teaching/with emphasis on Creative Writing. My minor is Speech Communication where I fell in love with Performance Poetry and Forensi cs.
Within months of graduating, I began one full year as a substitute teacher in Richmond, California teaching all subjects and all grades from K-12. The next year the district asked me to teach 6th Gr. ESL. The next year the asked that I teach 7th ESL/ELA, and the following year they asked me to teach 8th ESL/ELA. I follow this up by moving to Saudi Arabia where I managed an English School for Adults while teaching some classes myself. I trained many staff how to understand the Steven Krashen, theory of Second Language Acquisition and use this knowledge to help thousands of students. Now, after 10 years of experience teaching ESL to Adults in small classes, and due to Covid-19, I was required to teach 6 classes each day online for more than 18 months. I still love teaching English, but technology has changed the classroom.
