My name is Alexandra. I am a former college professor and formally trained writing tutor. I have over a decade of experience teaching or tutoring: 1. My name is Alexandra. I am a former college professor and formally trained writing tutor. I have over a decade of experience teaching or tutoring: 1. Political Science/American Government/Public Policy; 2. Writing; 3. Political Theory/History of Western Philosophy; 4. US and European History; 5. American and European Literature; 6. Greek and Roman History (incl. mythology); 7. European Art History.

I have experience tutoring international students and graduate students. When it comes to high school students, my teaching skill set makes me a good choice for AP/IB students who are at least in their sophomore year. My high school students have received top marks in AP Government, US History, European History, English Language, and English Literature.

I have always received strong teaching evaluations. After one of my teaching reviews, a senior professor said he had never seen a teacher receive as much universal praise from students and fellow professors. My former students inducted me as an honorary faculty member of a campus leadership group in recognition of my exceptional teaching and mentoring.

I am flexible, humorous, and approachable. I don't care how behind you are, how much you are struggling, or how unprepared you might feel. If you are willing to work with me, I WILL be able to help you. I am extremely patient with students who are trying, but still struggling with the material. I also know how to push elite students--my former students have been admitted to the country's best law schools and have won some of the most prestigious postgraduate awards in the world.

I have taught topics across the entire chronological scope of US History, including things like the politics of the American Founders and the rhetorical strategies of interest groups in the Civil Rights Movement. In my Ph.D. program, I was given specialized training in the methodology of history and am prepared to help students develop the document analysis skills required to succeed in college courses and advanced high school courses like AP US History.

For my Ph.D. I studied the history of European political theory. This required me to learn general European history, European literary and art history, and history of European philosophy. My own research on the history of European architecture drew significantly on history/historiography scholarship, and I taught multiple seminars that were cross-listed as European History classes.
