While attending Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon, I was hired by the college Tutoring Center to work in the Writer's Corner. The tutoring center required that tutors go through training which focused on working with one problem at a time. In the two years I worked there, I earned a master tutor certificate.
Later I worked as an instructional assistant in the Chemeketa College Adult Basic Education/GED program. In the GED Program, I taught groups and individuals out of the five different subjects including writing and literature. I assisted instructors in classrooms and used many of the skills I learned in the Tutoring Center.
During college I did an internship for the Oregon School for the Blind which had students with multiple disabilities. Recently, I have worked in public schools as a para educator for students with various emotional or physical disabilities. What I learned through all of this is that students were always teachable. It has been a joy to work with children, adolescents, and adults. I take time with my students and strive to understand what their needs are. My goals are to lead students to success.
