Both of my parents majored in English when they were in college, and they passed much of their knowledge on to me throughout my childhood. Both of my parents majored in English when they were in college, and they passed much of their knowledge on to me throughout my childhood. As a result, English was always my best subject in Elementary and High School. I love the English language, along with its nuances and its quirks. Late in High School, I discovered I also love Public Speaking. I competed three years in Forensics (Speech and Debate) on the High School level, and another three on the collegiate level. I like to think of myself as a writer, but acknowledging what a difficult field it is to make a living in, I still have a day job. When I got to college, I majored in Philosophy, largely to learn about logical and ordered thinking, but also because I find it interesting. I see tutoring as an opportunity to share what I've learned through my years of education, while also making some additional income to support my family.

My tutoring philosophy is to approach each case as unique, and as such my methods vary. I tend to start by talking with my tutee about the subject at hand and see what areas are easiest, and which areas require additional work. From there, I have a number of options, ranging from review with assigned course material, to teaching by analogy, to narrative examples. If I find that one technique is not working, I am willing to move on to another until we find a method that works.
