My training and education is in mathematics- I earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in math with a statistics concentration in 1993 and 1995, respectively. I believe that regardless of the field of study, a student should work hard, carefully read the text books, write things out, ask questions, wrestle with a topic, then explain and teach it to others in order to truly master the subject. This is the approach that guides my teaching and tutoring of students in the various topics of math and statistics.
I first gained experience as a graduate student teaching assistant conducting recitations in Calculus and working in the math learning center. Shortly after this experience, I was hired as a full time teacher of Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1 and AP Statistics at a local private college-preparatory high school where I remained for several years until I pursued further studies in graduate school. I then gained further experience teaching as an adjunct instructor of Remedial Algebra-based courses, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1 and Introductory Statistics at the local community college district. Subsequent to these experiences, I have been tutoring for the past few years for various tutoring companies.
By utilizing the methods that have been already been mentioned above, I am available to work with students taking the following courses: Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1 and 2, and Introduction (Elementary) to Statistics at the undergraduate level.

Statistics

Statistics

Although I had small class sizes, most if not all my students passed the AP Stats exam with at least the minimum score. My masters degree required courses in probability theory which is one of the topics in a standard stats class. I also taught the class using graphing technology, so the student would learn using it as well. The trend in stats is conceptual understanding and knowing what to do with data. This approach frees the student to master thinking versus numerical number crunching.

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I taught both Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Honors at the secondary level for three years.
Calculus,

Calculus

I taught Calculus at a private high school, conducted Calculus recitations in graduate school, and have tutored and am currently tutoring students in Calculus. I also hold a Masters degree in math.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I've worked and am now working with college students taking Calculus and Business Calculus. Topics I can cover include: Limit definition, techniques for finding limits, limits involving infinity The definition of derivative, techniques of differentiation, the chain rule, implicit differentiation, related rates, applications of the derivative, the mean value theorem, first derivative test, second derivative test, optimization problems Integration- the definite integral, indefinite integral, The fundamental theorem of calculus

Great Session

We went over confidence intervals, margin of error, and sampling. He clearly explained each concept to give me a better understanding. It was a great session. I would recommend Valentine.

Knowledgeable and patient

My son used Valentine to help with some areas in Pre-Calculus that he was struggling in. His teacher assumed you knew what she was talking about. My son said with Valentine he didn't assume you knew and took the time to explain it out and in a way he could understand. My son dredded the thought of being schooled after achool but after sessions with Valentine he said, Did you make another appointment for me? And was disappointed I had not made anymore than 3. In my book that speaks volumes for someone and how they speak with a child and help that person handle their struggles.

Very knowledgeable

Valentine helped me assimilate my data to write my doctoral research paper. He was very helpful and an expert at statistics. I am very thankful that I found Wyzant and that Valentine could travel to my office to give me hands-on help.

A very good tutor that knows his stuff.

He taught me statistics. He definitely knows his stuff and will go over it with you until you get it. If you send stuff to him in advance, he can do an even better job. He has a fair rate of pay and is very flexible. I would highly recommend.

Great Tutor

Valentine G. tutored me in college-level precalculus. He is very nice, knowledgeable and explains concepts very well. I wouldn't have passed the class without his help! I would definitely recommend him to anyone and would use him again in the future.

amazing

He was very helpful and patient. He did not do the assignment for me, he explained to me and made me think. I learned a lot and i think i am ready for stats 2. Thanks a lot
