Bio

I have always had a love, admiration and respect for children. I would admire their thought processes and smile at the funny things they would say. It is for this reason that I chose a career in education. I have worked for the past 26 years in Special Education, first as a teacher, and then as an administrator. I have always had a love, admiration and respect for children. I would admire their thought processes and smile at the funny things they would say. It is for this reason that I chose a career in education. I have worked for the past 26 years in Special Education, first as a teacher, and then as an administrator. I am currently the Regional Director of Special Programs for a school district in Jacksonville, FL. II have taught students from preschool through 8th grade. I have worked with students with a variety of disabilities as well as regular education students. The experience of working with such a wide variety of students with all different leaning styles, has allowed me to develop a repertoire of different forms of instruction to meet each individual students needs.

I specialize in tutoring students in reading and math from preschool through 8th grade. I spend my time with the students finding modifications that will help for them to be successful in their academic endeavors. Every student has the ability to learn and it is my job as an educator to find the way in which each student learns best.

I am a Certified Math Coach in the State of Connecticut. I went through a special 3 year program through St. Joseph's for this certification.

I am trained in many phonics, decoding and reading comprehension programs.

I am a certified Special Education Teacher. I have educated and tutored students with autism, emotional disturbance, down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, as well as students who are medically fragile.

I have my Masters Degree in Special Education. I have worked as a Special Education Teacher for 17 years. I currently teach a self-contained program for students with a variety of disabilities. I have worked with students with autism, emotional disturbance, ADHD, down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, as well as students who are medically fragile. I have worked with these students as a tutor as well. I am employed by my school district as a homebound tutor.

Sweet, Patient and knowledgeable

Debra is currently working with my nine-year-old son who has ADHD, Aspergers and Dyslexia. We have only met with her once so far, but during just that one visit my son has walked away retaining more information than what he has in the first two months of the school year. My son has had a extremely difficult time learning to read and is still only at a kindergarten level but Debra has some great ideas to help my son learn and shows such enthusiasm towards teaching him. I am excited for our continued lessons with her and have great faith that her time with him will be a great asset to him and his education.

She came prepared with her own text books for him and sat patiently with him. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. When I explained that I wasn't sure of how to do his homework from the night before at first, after reviewing it with Jacob she then turned to me to make sure I understood it. Great teacher.
