Bio

I double majored and minored at UC Berkeley -- majored in Applied Mathematics and Cognitive Neuroscience, and minored in Slavic Literature. I also graduated with my MS in Global Affairs/Transnational Security from NYU. Because of this, I am capable of tutoring in many subjects, having quite a bit of experience with reading, writing, science, and math. I am currently working in Los Angeles as a Data Engineer at Microsoft.

I have lots of experience teaching all ages. When I was in college at UC Berkeley I worked with low-income high school students and students with learning disabilities so if your child has a harder time learning, I am the tutor for you. Also, I have ADHD and had to overcome it in college; therefore, I know a lot of tricks when studying that help to keep students engaged and interested in what they are learning. If you, your son, or your daughter have a learning disability, I will be able to approach the tutoring session slightly differently and cater it to your, or your child's needs.

I strongly believe that all children are capable of learning all subjects, and I approach my sessions with a confidence and excitement that is infectious. I expect a lot from my students, but I do so in an encouraging and friendly way. I always try to make my students as comfortable as possible and encourage them to tell me all the issues they have in school without fear of judgment. No matter how "behind" your child is, I will never make them feel that way. Learning is a process that all people approach at different rates.

I really enjoy all animals -- dogs, cat, birds, snakes, you name it. So if you want to meet in your own home and you have lots of pets, no worries! I am happy to meet outdoors, or in a cafe or library; wherever suits your or your child's learning most.

Thanks for your time! And I hope to be teaching you soon!

ADHD

I personally have ADHD so I know exactly what the experience is for students who have issues conquering their mind and focusing in on their work. Additionally, I have tutored ADHD students for 2+ years in NYC of all ages. I find it incredibly rewarding and I help them to channel their amazing abilities so that they can feel confidence in their unique minds when it comes to school.

Patient and covers a lot in a short time

Serena was patient with my daughter; my daughter felt comfortable, and she covered a lot during the 2 hr lesson. We will definitely work with Serena again.

Very experienced, eager to teach, and patient

Serena was kind, patient and on time, very confident, and knowledgeable on what to do and how to teach my little girl with materials i provided. The experience was so wonderful for my daughter and i, we would love to keep her through the school year if she's available. I feel so hopeful that the one on one help with Serena will make all the difference for my daughter. Thank you, two happy customers!
