I have five different teaching areas. I have art education K-12. English 7-12 from my undergradate studies. After I left Asbury I continued my education with OSU to get my elementary education degree. I have the 1-8 certification. I was then hired to teach elementary grades and did that for 20 years, teaching mostly second and third grades. Along the way I began taking classes to get my reading endorsement/ ESL endorsement. I received a masters in education from Otterbein University and then transferred all my ESL coursework to OSU. My last ESL class was taken at OSU so my ESL endorsement is from OSU. I got hired as an ESL teacher and did that for 10 years, the best time of my life!
My specialty is teaching reading/word work and also the craft of writing paragraphs for students ages 7-10. I just retired as an ESL pull-out teacher for a large school district in Ohio. I had small groups of students of many ethnicities; many of whom had no language skills until they came to me. Teaching students to speak, read, write, and listen for understanding in English has been the best decision I ever made for my career.
