I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Binghamton University (SUNY) in 2008 with a double degree in Linguistics (B.A.) and Neuroscience (B.S.). After working as a behavioral neuroscience research technician for about two years, I pursued a position in 2010 at Cornell University within their Behavioral and Evolutionary Neuroscience program. In short order, I moved to Tufts University Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences, where I completed a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, with a focus on behavioral pharmacology, inhibitory signaling, and reward mechanisms.

I have been tutoring within the sciences since my undergraduate years at Binghamton University. I have worked with students in a wide variety of classes, ranging from linguistics (anthropological and psycholinguistic) to the hard and soft sciences (including biology, general and organic chemistry, basic neuroscience, and experimental psychology).

My vast tutoring and teaching experience has focused predominantly on organic chemistry, where I have helped upwards of 400 students across a range of undergraduate programs and universities. I have worked within a wide expanse of teaching environments, from small group settings and classroom teaching (including lecture-based learning) to individualized, one-on-one sessions.

With an arsenal of old exams, pre-made practice exams, and enough sample problems to keep you occupied until retirement, I am determined to help each student achieve the best possible suite of study skills, conceptual mastery and critical thinking that will allow him/her to succeed.

Biology,

Biology

I have taken a wide range of biology courses, both at the undergraduate (e.g. genetics, molecular, systems) and graduate (e.g. genetics, systems neuroscience, synapse neurobiology) levels.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have a taken a wide range of chemistry coursework throughout my undergraduate and graduate training, including general and organic chemistry as well as biochemistry. I am also familiar with AP Chemistry coursework, having completed the course as well as the exam (4) when I was in high school.

Biochemistry,

Biochemistry

I have taken graduate level biochemistry at Tufts Medical School through the Department of Neuroscience. I also completed my initial graduate lab work in a lab that focused heavily on biochemical approaches to understand inhibitory synapse formation.

Genetics,

Genetics

I've taken several courses in genetics, both as an undergraduate and graduate student. In addition, I have a variety of lab experience in the field. As an undergraduate, I worked with a microbiologist studying the effects of gene deletion on biofilm formation (my duties included restriction digests, ligations, PCR, etc.). My current work has me reading primary source data on gene knockout/down/in projects, working with said knockout/down/in mice, as well as performing various molecular biological and genetic techniques (e.g. qPCR).
Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

I've been tutoring Organic Chemistry I and II since I was an undergraduate (beginning in the fall of 2007) until the present time. In that period, I developed my own curriculum, began my own review classes, and created my own materials (e.g. problem sets, practice exams, and so on). All in all, I've worked with hundreds of students at Binghamton University (SUNY), Cornell University, and most recently at UMass Boston. If requested, I'd be happy to submit examples of the materials I've developed and/or contact information of prior students.
Pharmacology,

Pharmacology

I have a wide variety of experience in multiple areas of pharmacology. Post-undergraduate, I worked for almost two years as a behavioral neuroscience lab technician in a lab studying the ontogenetic effects of ethanol. Through that work, I became adept at behavioral pharmacology and the various lab practices surrounding its application (e.g. dose/response curves, drug effects, interactions, opioid receptor functioning). I am currently in a Neuroscience doctoral program at Tufts University Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences and am focusing on work regarding GABA receptors, drug targets on said receptors, etc.
Psychology,

Psychology

I received my B.S. in Psychobiology, which incorporated a broad range of psychology coursework (e.g. abnormal, developmental, experimental). Additionally, I worked in a behavioral pharmacology and learning lab after my undergraduate training, which focused heavily on Pavlovian approaches.

Knowledgeable,Patient, and Personable

I’ve had 2 lessons so far with Laura but I plan on having lessons for the rest of the semester. She explains things very clearly and is very patient with me. Highly recommend!

Incredible tutor.

Laura was incredibly knowledgeable about organic chemistry. But she was also great at teaching it. She was even able to help my daughter retrieve some hope that she can improve her understanding of the subject. Laura has a lot of empathy and patience.

Ochem 1

Laura was an incredible tutor explaining ochem in a way I am able to understand. Also was able to make additional problems for me to understand. Will definitely be using her in the future.

Amazing Tutor - Smart, Helpful, and Engaging

It's not just that Laura knows everything you need to know about biology, but also that she has great techniques, energy, and intuition for teaching the information in ways that make it meaningful and interesting.

Simply the best!

If you’re looking for a great tutor who is organized, brilliant and able to break complex topics into layman terms, then she’s the one you’re looking for. She values you, and wants you to succeed. She offers additional material if you’re in need. She’s the only tutor I feel is the best for me, give her a try, you won’t regret it.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

My daughter is learning orgo. She took 5 classes. She is really good. My daughter loves her teaching, and is continuing with more lessons. She gives lots of problems to review after class, she makes class very interesting.

Super knowledgeable about orgo!

We did a brief overview of alkene & alkyne reactions to prepare for a quiz. She knew all the reactions by heart and was able to quickly come up with practice problems.

Knowledgable and patient tutor

Laura tutored me through a semester of Organic Chemistry I. She is extremely patient and knowledgable. Her notes were very helpful and clear; it was easy to go back and learn the material more thoroughly. She was available via text and email if I had any quick questions. She also sent me additional worksheets to do practice problems. Laura is truly an amazing tutor that I would recommend to other students.

Very good tutor, knows her stuff!!

Per my daughter, Laura has helped her so much. She made it so easy to understand and made her less anxious. We should have done this sooner like last semester , but hoping to pull through the semester. My daughter had 4 sessions so far and it has been a tremendous help. Laura has been so great, knowledgeable , patient and such a good teacher .
