Hello and Greetings!

My name is Gabriel and I have a crippling addiction to tutoring. Kidding, but it is a favored activity.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in History (American Focus) and Minor in Public History from Franklin Pierce University in May of 2018. In my fifth semester, I was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta Honors Society for History Scholars. Shortly thereafter, in the sixth semester, I was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honors Society for Collegiate Scholars, being the all-encompassing organization. When not grinding through academics, work kept me busy. Every semester at FPU, barring the first, was spent as a writing tutor. I worked the path upward from assistant tutor to independent tutor, then from independent tutor to trainer of tutors. My time was spent working one-on-one with students, sometimes assisting with group assignments, and other times traveling to classrooms to offer immediate and direct help. These collective experiences gave me the tools to tutor a broad span of the liberal arts.

After college, I accepted a position at Plimoth Plantation (think the Pilgrims) as a Living History Educator. I spent a year in that capacity, teaching tens of thousands of domestic and foreign visitors about the 17th century. I began working in that museum's education department during that time, working with students from 3rd grade to college. Age and prior knowledge is no obstacle to my teaching.

My approach is question based. I avoid handing out answers, but poke and prod to generate content from your own mind. That is where the highest quality material typically hides. At the same time, we will address any gaps in knowledge which might hinder exploration of a subject. My goal is to make you a better writer, analyst, critical thinker, and historian (even if only for a single assignment). I have experience working with every type of student- whether searching for some minor corrections, starting from nothing, or somewhere in-between stages.

History

American History,

American History

Volunteer with National Park Service at Spring Armory National Historic Site with over 4 years experience. Started summer of Sophomore year and continued every summer into the present. Created historical interpretation programs regarding the site's 174 year history in accordance with federal standards. Sample subjects included general American history, military history, industrial revolution, social evolution, and political impacts. All programs created with public enjoyment and comprehension in mind. Therefore, my ability to teach and explain historical topics in American history was perfected over those years.
European History,

European History

In my junior year, I continued the hunt for tutoring work. I solicited my history professors once more, and successfully acquired tutoring clients from classes such as Europe since 1500, Medieval History, Nazi Germany, and others. This work was done alongside my existing Writing and World History tutoring jobs. Expanding my clientele helped round-out my historical expertise.
Political Science,

Political Science

During my senior year, I was approached by my Contemporary World Affairs professor with a request to tutor some of his troubled students. I had expressed a desire to expanse my tutoring experiences into that realm, so it was a wonderful opportunity. For the remainder of my senior year I tutored political science students in Political Violence, Politics and Popular Culture, and other courses along with European History and World history which I took up earlier in my career.
World History,

World History

During my sophomore year of college (one semester after beginning as a writing tutor) I began asking my professors for tutoring opportunities in their history classes. The only interested professor at the time taught general world history courses on subjects such as World History since 1500, 20th Century: A Global Application, and others. I took on tutoring students in need for those courses, and continued that work alongside Writing Tutor work for my remaining years.

Sharlene, 2 lessons with Gabriel

Knowledgeable, patient, and well organized.

I feel lucky that I found Gabriel here on Wyzant. He helped me with my essays as I put the ideas on paper and they were all over the place. Gabriel has a way to understand writer’s block so he elicits a sequence of questions to guide the student in a specific direction. It is amazing! He is patient, understanding, and no question is unimportant to him. He also helped me with transitions, introductory phrases, and a more elegant vocabulary.
