Numerous successes in school and many years of work experiences as a supervisor prepared me to do well as a tutor.

At my high school, two out of three years, I ranked in the top three on the national math test.

While in college I did extremely well in subjects in which attention to detail was critical. More than one instructor requested my help in proofreading and editing mathematics or computer science textbooks.

In the workplace, I was promoted to Service Manager and given many workers to train. I discovered that each person had a different way of learning. If I did not get the desired result from one of these workers, I would reconsidered the teaching approach I used with them to see if it could be improved.

When I returned to college to study Computing and Software Systems, I observed that most instructors either did not have the time or the desire to adapt to the students’ needs. Wanting to help, I enrolled in a tutor training course and then worked in computer and math labs, where I could assist my classmates in many subjects. As a tutor, I am often able to provide what the instructor cannot.

I am patient and understanding, but also thorough and detail oriented. Rather than just showing the students a correct way to perform an operation, I prefer to ask the right questions that will help the student think of a way to find it.

I like seeing people reach their potential--and, if I am able in some way to help them in getting there, I find that especially fulfilling.

Financial Accounting

I have been assisting students with Economics (both Micro- and Macro-) ever since the first time I took the college courses over 20 years ago. After receiving an almost perfect score in both classes, I decided to help other students achieve similar results. My purpose is not just to help you reach the correct answer but rather to help you understand how it all works together. I find it is better for me to help you see the repeating patterns because they are much easier to remember than just a list of facts.

Managerial Accounting

The first time I took a college Accounting course, my instructor told me I had done better than any of his previous students...and he had been teaching for many years. That prompted me to take the second semester of the course, in which I had similar results. Many years ago, when I gave up construction for something a little less physically demanding, I decided to take more Accounting courses and to include them among my tutoring subjects. I find that regularly re-auditing the courses helps keep me current with how Accounting is being taught, and that it helps me be the best tutor I can be.

C++

As part of the requirements of the University of Washington's Computing and Software Systems bachelor's degree, I completed four C++ courses and then used the programing experience to complete many projects for other courses. Additionally, I took a college course on tutoring techniques and later was paid to tutor and/or monitor various computer labs. I did very well in all of the C++ classes and was able to help others because of my training.

As part of the requirements of the University of Washington's Computing and Software Systems bachelor's degree, I completed four C++ courses and then used the programming skills to complete many projects for other courses. I did very well in all of my C++ classes and had opportunities to help other students with their programming. Since then, I have also studied Java and Python and have tutored many college students to help them write code with those languages for their programming courses.

I have been a student in the computing and software systems bachelor's degree program at the Bothell, WA, campus of the University of Washington. In fact, I have finished all of the required classes except the 400-hour internship, for which I am currently searching. Studies for this program included computer science, computer hardware, system analysis & design, and a lot of software development--mostly using C++. I also took a college course on tutoring techniques and later was paid to tutor and/or monitor various computer labs.

Math, for a long time, has been one of my passions. Another is helping others to understand and enjoy it. I especially like tutoring students that really want to learn and have found that those taking Calculus are usually very serious about understanding it.

Don is an excellent tutor and very patient and resourceful

Don is an excellent tutor. He is patient and tries many different techniques to connect with my son. My son is Autistic and had trouble communicating and is also prone to throwing fits when he gets frustrated. Don is able to patiently explain things to him even when he is throwing a fit. Under Don’s tutoring, my son has gone from a C student to an A student in math.

Patient, meets the student where they are at.

Don had a session with my college son and was great. He was patient and made sure to have everything prepared ahead of the lesson so they could hit the ground running. He met my son where he was in terms of ability. He is detail-oriented and thorough. Thank you.

Quickly brought my son up to speed and improved his grade.

Don stepped in near the end of an AP macroeconomics course, and got my son back on track and up to speed quickly. He is able to break down difficult and lengthy concepts into information anyone can understand. He uses a white board to explain, helpful for visual learners. No need to use the most expensive tutor on the site, we are thrilled with what Don provided. Worth every cent.

Patient and knowledgeable to begin with

Algebra 1 first session was very helpful to set the stage for start tutoring for my son & he provided an understanding of how his teaching style will be applied. Very helpful.

AMAZING

Don has been working on Algebra 2 with my daughter for a couple weeks now and it’s been very helpful. He teaches her in a style that makes sense and we trust she will build up her confidence with math once again.

Well versed and patient tutor

Help my son with the law of sines and law of cosines, in a way that helped him lock in the concepts. He took the time to evaluate my sons current understanding and then provided the proper directions to steer him through the material.

Good With Disabilities!

I struggle with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Math. Luckily, Don is good at math! Being a student with learning challenges is challenging. It can be tough finding an excellent tutor who is willing and has enough perseverance to work with me. COVID-19 has hit schools hard, and because of that, classes moved to online. I now had to take my inferential statistics class online! This class is called PSY 362, and it is offered at Central Washington University to people who are majoring in nursing, psychology, and nutrition. This statistics class is a little different than a typical business and math statistics class because it focuses on hypotheses and healthcare. On top of the short notice, I suck at numbers and can't do any math in my head. My calculator is my lifeline in math class. I looked for a tutor, who had enough time available to really helped me learn, and was skilled enough to set up a Zoom meeting. Don knows more about computers than me, and I am a 21-year-old college student! Don helped me master ANOVA, and keep my grade an A (98%). I really have to thank Don for showing me how easy math can be.

Very helpful

Don patiently went over the material in Financial Accounting that caused my consternation. After he finished, I was able to perform the tasks on my own with confidence. Thanks Don!

Great tutor

I have tasked Don with a particular problem that I can only take so far without a computer program. Don has met the challenge and I could not be happier with his work.
