With over 13 years of dedicated experience in tutoring and teaching, I am deeply committed to empowering students to excel in their academic pursuits. My passion for education is rooted in a profound belief that every student has the potential for success when provided with the right guidance and support.

Throughout my career, I have applied a culturally competent framework to education, recognizing the importance of acknowledging and respecting the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of my students. This approach not only fosters a more inclusive learning environment but also ensures that every student's unique needs are met.

One of my core values is education equity. I firmly believe that education should be accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or any other factors that may create disparities. I actively advocate for equitable educational opportunities and work tirelessly to bridge the gap between privilege and access.

My teaching philosophy centers on the idea that education is not just about imparting knowledge but also about nurturing critical thinking skills, fostering curiosity, and instilling a lifelong love for learning. As a lifelong learner myself, I am in a unique position to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where students are empowered to reach their full potential.

I look forward to continuing my journey in education, championing equity, and helping students achieve their academic aspirations.

Criminal Justice

After focusing on forensic anthropology as an undergraduate at CUNY Hunter, I earned over 40 hours of continuing education credit from the National Institute of Justice covering various areas of crime scene investigation. Concurrently, I was a student at several LEO-focused forensic field schools. In the years since my undergrad days, I have worked as a volunteer in hate crimes programming, and non-profits, and am in my final year of studies at Harvard for my Master's in Government which includes significant coursework covering current research and policy in restorative and transformative Justice, constitutional law, and criminal justice system.

Elementary (K-6th)

For the past 3 years I have been tutoring students ranging in age from pre-k to 6th grade in all subjects. Currently, I tutor 3 students on a bi- and tri-weekly basis in whatever subject they need help in and tutor at least two other young girls in kindergarten and 1st grade on an as needed basis. In the past, I tutored at least 3 other students in the 4th and 5th grades as well. All students have seen a vast improvement in their work and in their confidence in their work. My current greatest success story is a 10 year old girl, now in the 5th grade, who, last year, was receiving 40s and 50s in math, science, ela, and social studies but now, with my guidance, has been receiving 90s and above for the past year. Additionally, I have been tutoring a 5 year old kindergarten student who excelled in math but needed help with his reading. His primary weakness was putting sounds together to form words and had a tendency to confused sounds like "f" and "th" and "ph" and "th". He now eagerly reads and has become a fairly proficient speller. With all of my students in this age range, I typically devote 4-9 hours a week with each student to go over whatever they currently need help with and where exactly they are struggling. I help each student to identify the specific part of a problem or topic that they do not understand and work with them to figure out why it is that don't understand it. My methods include integrating the topics that need to be covered so that they might understand how each subject relates to others.

Reading

For nearly 5 years, I have been working with lower and middle school students to improve their skills in math, reading, science, and writing. I believe in working within a student's abilities and creating a memorable experience. Whether that means learning about sentence structure and storytelling by creating a book or playing a round of scrabble to work on definitions and spelling, I do what it takes for younger students to learn what they need by engaging them in something fun and familiar.

Very Helpful

Really great tutor. I had great difficulty in my geology course (not my strength at all) but she was patient and took the time to explain whatever I questioned. She left the door to communication open if I had a question outside of the session she was able to help me. Very much worth it.
