I graduated from Hudson County Community College in New Jersey in Business Management with honors. It was then that I realized that I wanted to pursue my dream of continuing my education to teach others. Teaching has been my most rewarding career. I've worked in real estate and sales in New Jersey and Florida. Education has the ability to map and influence a person's life to facilitate a positive future.

While enrolled in Jersey City State College, currently known as New Jersey City University, I pursued a degree in Elementary Education, and I double majored in English. During my education studies, I was placed in a gifted and talented first grade class for my junior practicum and a mainstream fourth grade class for my senior student teaching. I was taught teaching methodology but learned more about the learner. I have state teacher certification in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. I've since then acquired a Master's Degree in Human Development/Psychology.

I love to read and find a good book a source of comfort. It is undoubtedly the reason that I've found teaching any subject under the umbrella of language arts the most enjoyable, particularly reading; however, I thoroughly enjoy teaching all of the subjects in which I have the expertise: writing, math, critical thinking, test taking skills, ESL, psychology, special education, etc.

I enjoy problem solving, i.e., discovering the reason a student has difficulty and finding the solution. Tutoring a diverse population for over 12 years, I've gained a lot of experience tutoring students with learning challenges and found it to be some of my most rewarding teaching experiences.

I encourage independence and positive self-esteem. As an auditory learner, I'm inclined to be talkative, but I use a vast amount of resources to facilitate a more positive learning experience for all types of learners. I enjoy the arts. My classroom lessons were often animated with dance, songs, poems, and puppet shows. As a tutor, I still use puppets to encourage c

Great tutoring experience!

Deborah is such a great tutor! She is very patient and has a great way of getting my son (now 8 years old) to stay on task and focus even when he is having a fidgety day and is able to keep his attention a full hour so that he can really work to improve his handwriting skills! I couldn’t get him to do 5 minutes of what she gets him to do for an entire hour, it is very impressive!
