I have studied many forms of Japanese from very formal Japanese as well as various dialects of regional Japanese such as Kansai-ben, Osaka-ben, and more and have a strong grasp of nuanced vocabulary and grammar use. If you are interested in learning about Japanese dialects or casual Japanese I love to teach them because in my opinion they are absolutely hilarious and understanding them helps expand passive understanding a great deal. I worked at Skidmore College teaching students Japanese with a strong focus on proper pronunciation and tone and becoming comfortable making sounds in the target language. Working with students not just to translate their ideas but to use what they know to express their true emotions and rediscover their personalities in the target language and seriously increase the potential of their communication abilities.
I have studied Japanese at Middlebury College's immersive summer language school and at Jouchi Daigaku (Sophia University) in Tokyo. I am a native English speaker so that makes my katakana skills impeccable as well ;) I also lived in rural Tajimi, Gifu prefecture, making Shino ceramics under the guidance of a Japanese pottery master. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies with a concentration in Japanese language.
