Hello! My name is Megan and I have been a working professional in healthcare analytics for the last 10 years. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with dual degrees in Economics and Hospitality Business. I worked in finance for Hilton Worldwide for two years following college before moving to Louisiana. When I moved to Louisiana, I had the opportunity to go back to school. I pursued the majority of a biology degree before applying to Louisiana State University School of Health Science when I obtained my master's in public health epidemiology. Following grad school, I began work for a Medicare Managed Care provider. With my background in public health, I became specialized in program evaluation using SQL SSMS and Excel as my primary tools. I have also worked extensively in SSRS which is more or less a derelict tool. I have created many dashboards ranging from financial trend performance (KPI) to program evaluation to population health statistics. I have done all of my dashboarding in Tableau and Microsoft BI. What good is the data if you can't share it?

In 2020, I began managing an analytics team for a large health insurance company. I typically hire 2-5 people annually. I do not believe that an analyst needs to know SQL prior to starting their career. I can provide on the job training. It is much more difficult to instill the passion for research. I have taught dozens of young professionals how to leverage SQL (SSMS) and MS Excel for analysis, presentation, and career advancement. These skills translate to other industries besides healthcare.
