I have been privileged to work with a variety of students in grades 1-3 since I graduated college in 1991. I have taught mostly in self- contained classrooms, but within that setting, I often teach students individually. One of my favorite subjects to teach is reading because it is the basis for so many skills. It gives me great joy to hear a student reading fluently and enjoying it!
I also value music and know that it helps anyone learn new material. I sometimes will create new little songs to help students learn. I also enjoy playing the piano because I feel it helps students become comfortable. Music is therapy for the soul!
I have taught students in grades 1-3 in self- contained classrooms. I organized an after-school service club for students in grades 3-5.
I enjoy writing and currently write a blog and sports write-ups for a local high school. I also write book reviews. I have taught struggling readers to pass the Indiana Reading Test- IREAD since its implementation in 2010.
I have taught cursive handwriting since 1991.
I implemented a study system in my classroom called BEAR-- Bring Everything Always Ready. This is a binder system that contains a calendar and filers to help students keep assignments and homework organized. This system is one I discovered on a website. I have found it to be an essential tool for students.
I enjoy teaching students in creative ways. I believe that all students can learn!
