I am currently a senior in high school, where I am the captain of our debate team. I will be attending the University of Chicago as a freshman this fall. I have been a competitive debater since fifth grade. I have qualified for the Tournament of Champions (TOC) and the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament the last three years. I was the first debater in my team's 120-year history to be recognized as an NSDA All-American in my junior year. I have the second-most NSDA points in my school’s history. I have competed in over 8 different formats, but my main formats are Parliamentary Debate, Public Forum, Policy, and Congressional Debate.
I was the 2023 Princeton Invitational Champion, after making finals my junior year. I have earned a TOC bid at every eligible tournament over the last two years. Outside of debate, I have other experience with public speaking. I was the champion of the PennCarey Law Program’s Moot Court Tournament last year, and have spoken at Carnegie Hall.
In addition to my own competitive experience, I have extensive experience teaching debate. I spend six hours a week with the novices on my debate team, giving lectures on speech delivery and different events. I volunteer as an assistant debate coach at my former middle school twice a week, judging practice rounds and providing feedback to the young debaters. I find great satisfaction in watching students I work with succeed. I approach every student differently, from helping those who seek to be competitive reach the next level to teaching the basics of good public speaking.
A little personal information about me: I love to read fantasy novels (my favorite series being The Stormlight Archive). I played varsity soccer throughout high school, and I am a ranked chess player, with a FIDE peak of about 1700. Lastly, I have two younger brothers–one is 16, the other is only 3, and I love being an older sibling to both of them.
