I have been doing private in-home tutoring in all areas of mathematics and physics for the past six years. My education in two entirely different fields of engineering and in mathematics has equipped me with excellent knowledge of providing customized tutoring services to Elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as to college students, in the subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and some lower and upper division electrical and structural civil engineering courses. My ability to work with students and parents in order to find out their weakest points and help them improve has always been commended. Moreover, I possess a positive attitude and a passion to assist struggling learners. I enjoy tutoring students and helping them build confidence in their ability to achieve, both academically and socially. Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 provides the basic building blocks for all of the higher high school math classes. I help students master these basic principles: variable equations, inequalities, absolute value, slope, slope-intercept form, polynomials, quadratic equations, exponents and radicals. Plus the dreaded word problems. Learning these basic principles well from the beginning will give students a strong foundation for the rest of their high school careers.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

For some students, algebra 2 marks the end of their high school career; for others, it's just a stepping stone to other higher Math classes; and for a third group, it's a refresher class at college. But no matter the reason, the objective is clear... to pass the class. I help students navigate through factoring, the Quadratic Formula, complex roots, imaginary numbers, matrices, exponents, logarithms, radicals, series & sequences, and conic sections (hyperbolas, ellipses, and circles).
Biology,

Biology

Biology, the amazing science of learning about living organism, is one of the most interesting and enlightening fields in science. One may think that he/she can just study off a textbook and ace his/her exams. But that is not always the case. An experienced tutor can save you a lot of time by giving you a crash course on contents that would take a person tens of hours to learn within a 2 hour session. An effective biology tutor can deliver the biology lessons to you in a way that you will spend 10% of the time you would on your own to master the material.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is the building block for all the engineering classes and upper division math classes. If you major in engineering you will see that everything you have learned so far in your algebra or other math classes were taught to you so you can apply them in calculus. Calculus may look very scary to those who have problems with the basic concepts of derivative and integral. But I employ some tutoring methods that will make calculus a fun subject for you.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is a very different subject compared to other branches in mathematics and can often make even the brightest math students stumble. I have a lot of experience teaching this subject and I will make Geometry very easy for you, whether it is with angles, lines and triangles in first semester or surface areas, volumes, and circles in second semester.
Physics,

Physics

Physics is the application of all the math subjects that we study at school in real life. Sometimes students suffer in their physics classes because they don't know how to approach the problems. The way I tutor physics has made concepts very easy for my students. All that has to be done to solve a problem is as follows: write down all the formulas from the summery of each chapter on a piece of paper. Make sure you understand what all the variables and constants represent and understand the units. From then on it will just be plugging in numbers into equations. Of course finding the write equation to use is very essential. But after solving a few problems for a given chapter, it will become an easy task. You will be amazed how some concepts that you never thought you would understand, would become so easy and clear after having a few sessions.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I help students develop their skills and strong foundation in Math that they will need during their high school years and beyond. I cover the introduction to variables, factoring, inequalities, graphing, and absolute values.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I help precalculus students develop the strong fundamentals of Math that they are going to need in Calculus. I review the six Trigonometric functions and their graphs, logarithms. I also cover complex numbers and polar coordinates. Finally, I preview limits and derivatives that will form the basis of Calculus.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have taught the Mathematics portion of the SAT numerous times in the past, to groups and individuals. I go over the content and the math needed to understand. Throughout, I discuss solving strategies with the student, so that they understand what to expect and how to approach the questions.

Civil Engineering,

Civil Engineering

I have a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from UCLA. But my master's study was in civil engineering. And I received a master of science in civil engineering (structural engineering) from UCLA. I was an honor student throughout my entire graduate as well as undergraduate study. My strong background in many fields in civil engineering, particularly in structural engineering, has helped me be a very effective tutor in these areas.
Electrical Engineering,

Electrical Engineering

I have a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from UCLA. My master's degree is in civil engineering but I have recently started a PHD program in electrical engineering at UCLA again. I was an honor student throughout my entire undergraduate study and I am sure that my background in electrical engineering would qualify me to be a tutor in this subject.

Probability

Probability is one of those subjects that are black and white. Some students seem to have no sense of the concepts in probability. I was always one of those students who found this subject fun. I can break down the concepts for you to very simple parts and once it is all put together you will appreciate the beauty of probability and its broad application in real life. Once you get good at this subject not only your grades would improve, but you will also be applying it to many situations in your personal life, and it will definitely help your decision makings as well.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

With Trigonometry, it is common that students feel lost, because they haven't understand the basics of trigonometry, that is what the six trigonometric functions Sin, Cos, Tan, Sec, Csc, and Cot mean. Once that is fully understood, rather than just memorizing the values of these functions for different angles, the rest would be surprisingly easy. I also cover graphing functions of the form y=A func [B(x+c)] + D and how to interpret the graph. In addition, I review Law of Sines, Law of Cosine, half angle and double angle formulas, and Pythagorean Identities. I find it amazing how some of my past students who hated trigonometry now find it as one of their favorite subjects in math.

College Algebra Tutor

Matthew was really fantastic! He made time out of his crazy schedule to come to the rescue of my daughter who was stressing about some homework assignments and an upcoming test. On the same day we contacted each other, he came to our house (it was a Saturday), then he made time right before her test to make sure she had a high degree of comfort going into the test. She went from completely not understanding to waiting anxiously for the results of her test because she felt like she may have aced it! After her session, my duaghter texted me saying, "He is SO AWESOME!" She said he really challenged her, never made her feel stupid, encouraged her to work through piece by piece until she understood. We are very thankful for Matthew... I would give him 10 stars if I could!

Fantastic tutor!

Matthew jumped right on this last minute project -- i.e., the very same evening. (He even switched plans around to make it happen. Thank you!) Matthew knew the material cold. He was kind. He provided confidence. And, he was patient. I strongly recommend his services.

Fantastic Tutor & Service

Matthew was an excellent tutor. He took the time to be sure my daughter understood the concept before moving on. Matthew also had multiple ways of teaching various math principles and was very disarming. I'd recommend him to anyone. Great communication with the parent as well!
