From the time I was young, I aspired to become an elementary teacher. I have always loved children, and I find interacting with students energizing. Immediately after college I taught for four years, three of which were at the fourth grade level. I enjoyed each of my years and felt like I had made strong connections both with my students and their parents. Even after 25 years I still hear from some of my students and their parents.
After my children were born, I primarily focused on their care and education. Because I enjoyed so many aspects of teaching, our family pursued homeschooling together for 14 years. While teaching at home, I took the opportunity to review, select, and experiment with curriculums that varied in educational approach and ranged from kindergarten to middle school level.
Additionally, during the last 15 years, I have taught weekly third and fourth grade Sunday school classes. I directed the swim team for our neighborhood children and taught Vacation Bible School. Over the past four school years I have substitute taught as well as kept up with my elementary teaching certification. As you can see I really enjoy working with children and often look for opportunities to encourage them in their growth, whether mentally or emotionally.
