Hello! I'm Maria Ignacia. I graduated from Universidad de los Andes in Chile as an Elementary Teacher with majors in all four core subjects (Math, Language, Social Studies, and Natural Science), and a minor in Latin American Studies. Later on I got my certificate to teach ESL online.
I have ~6 years of teaching experience in 3 different countries: about two years teaching elementary students and specifically 5th and 6th grade math in Chile; one and a half years teaching all subjects in Spanish to second and third graders (combination class) in the US; and one and a half years of teaching English at a business school in Japan.
Aside from my formal jobs, I worked as a substitute teacher on my free hours while in Chile, did tutoring mostly to elementary-aged children, but also taught English to high schoolers. While in Japan, I worked as a substitute teacher at a Catholic school and helped an eighth grader get confident in himself to bring up his grades from Cs to As and A+ in Math and History.
Now as a mom I am enjoying time at home with my girls and focusing on some homeschooling, while exploring tutoring again as a side job.
My main focus is to help students learn how to learn on their own by encouraging the development of research skills, logical reasoning, and confidence in themselves. I am open to any ideas and suggestions that students and parents have to develop de best approach towards the student's particular learning style. I will do my best to make you fall in love with learning. Feel free to message me with questions or to schedule a lesson! I am always easy to reach and will provide a prompt response.
Have a blessed day!
